The Blues of Birmingham have enjoyed a terrific 2009-2010 campaign which has resulted in the team finishing in the top ten, or at least it looks as though they’ll finish in the upper tier of the table. In fairness, Birmingham should have assured themselves of a too-of-the-table finish ages ago but a drastic period of form has dented their bid to remain in the upper echelon of the Premier League after going nine games without a win. They’ll have no easier opportunity to end such a poor run of form than against Burnley at home… Ever!

This fixture really is gift wrapped and golden for Alex McLeish and his players as they look to seal a promising season with at least one more victory. Finishing the campaign with a lengthy win less run wouldn’t do what has been a strong and enjoyable season for Birmingham any justice, while they shouldn’t come across too many problems putting this miserable looking run to bed on Saturday, as Burnley pay them a visit at St Andrews.

Birmingham have lost just two games all season at St Andrews, and while they are currently enduring a difficult period of results, the club do remain undefeated at home for over six months and haven’t lost a home fixture in fourteen games. It would be arguably the biggest shock of the season wee Burnley, a side which has won just once away from home all season, with even that rare away oddity coming at Hull City, to beat Birmingham on their own patch just two games before the seasons draws to a close.

Birmingham’s last home fixture should have been a comfortable outings for the Blues, but Alex McLeish watched a fabulous opportunity to end this baron run pass him by as Hull held out for a point at St Andrews. Burnley have the worst away defence in the league having shipped a staggering 50 goals on their travels this season, and for all Birmingham’s poor run of form and lack of fire-power in front of goal, they really should find more fortune on Saturday against a hapless and hopeless Clarets, who, let’s not forget are already relegated after a resounding 4-0 defeat at home to Liverpool last Sunday.

The 1.53 currently on offer looks a steal, with only Birmingham’s poor run of form stopping bookies from slashing the odds in half, as Birmingham really should be about 1/5.
