Borussia Dortmund Preview – Will Marco Rose’s reign in Dortmund get off to a winning start?
Marco Rose was the overwhelming candidate to be the long-term replacement for Lucien Favre at Borussia Dortmind. Rose – who spent two seasons in charge of Borussia Monchengladbach – was appointed at the start of the calendar year but seen out the remainder of the campaign at his former employers. This now becomes his first game in charge of Dortmund and he will be well aware of the expectation.
Edin Terzic had been in interim charge of the club for the second half of last season and led them to third place in the Bundesliga as well as winning the German Cup final. It was a strong end to the campaign showing how capable this group of players can be.
The biggest transfer business over the summer has been the sale of Jadon Sancho to Manchester United. There’s no doubt losing a player of his quality will be a miss but this squad is packed full of attacking threat and dynamism.
Donyell Malen has come in from PSV after impressing for Netherlands at Euro 2020 and will give them another option in the forward areas. Jude Bellingham and Gio Reyna are also another year older and more experienced. Their contribution last season was excellent despite their tender years.

It was a case of so near but so far for Eintracht Frankfurt last season. They were in and around the top four throughout the campaign and a Champions League finish was in their hands right up until the last couple of rounds. The under the charge of Adi Hutter, Eintracht won just one of their last four games and ended up in fifth spot just a point behind Wolfsburg.
Ironically after parting with Hutter the club elected to target Oliver Glasner who had led Wolfsburg to the Champions League. You sense that will be one of Glasner’s objectives with his new club.

There has been some notable transfers over the summer. Andre Silva has left to join RB Leipzig and his 28 goals from last season will be a huge miss. Rafael Borre has come in and will likely be given the main striking role whilst Jens Petter Hauge arrives from AC Milan and will add a spark from the wide areas.
