Borussia Dortmund Preview – Maximum points the perfect riposte to Leverkusen debacle?

The same defensive frailties that have plagued them throughout the season were again in evidence last time out, as Borussia Dortmund (3rd – W11 D6 L4) spurned an opportunity to reduce the arrears on the leaders by losing 4-3 away to Bayer Leverkusen. A defeat which was made all the more frustrating for having held leads of 2-1 and 3-2 only to still come away empty handed, after conceding twice in as many minutes inside the closing stages of the contest.

Coach Lucien Favre is coming in for ever-increasing scrutiny, with reports abound that his position could come under threat unless results improve. Finding a level of consistency is the key, something that has so far eluded them. BVB are still to put together a longer winning run than three games this season, while this has been the worst campaign defensively for more than a decade – not since 2007-08 has BVB conceded more than their current total of 32 from 21 Bundesliga matches.

A lot of these issues stem from an inability to perform as well on their travels, though, as their record at Signal Iduna Park remains incredibly strong: W7 D3 L0. In fact, they are the only team in the German top-flight still to lose at home in 2019-20. Averaging nearly four goals per home game, Dortmund have scored a minimum of three times in each of the last six, including five in the most recent two against FC Koln (5-1) and Union Berlin (5-0).

Borussia Dortmund & Both to Score

Eintracht Frankfurt Preview – Reinvigorated Eagles back in the groove?

Had it not been for the intervention of the winter break, Eintracht Frankfurt (9th – W8 D4 L9) would have probably continued on their descent towards the Bundesliga drop zone. Their final seven league games of 2019 returned a single point out of a possible 21 (D1 L6) to leave them hovering precariously above the relegation places. The path they were heading down was only too apparent.

The recuperation period has worked wonders, though, as Die Adler begun 2020 with renewed vigour and playing like a team seemingly reborn. A far cry from the one that seen out a dismal month of December with defeat after defeat. Confidence has well and truly been restored and it culminated in last week’s 5-0 demolition of Augsburg at the Commerzbank-Arena, where Adi Hutter’s men ran riot, scoring four during a rampant second-half display.

Not since the season of 1969-70 has Frankfurt begun a new year with as many points as they do now (10). A superb turnaround which started with a 2-1 victory away at Hoffenheim – only their second win on the road all season (W2 D1 L7) – before springing something of a surprise at home against RB Leipzig, beating the team who were top of the table at the time 2-0. The only blemish during an otherwise imperious run the 1-1 draw at relegation-threatened Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Borussia Dortmund Vs Eintracht Frankfurt Betting Advice

Borussia Dortmund had their 2020 momentum checked when losing a seven-goal thriller at Leverkusen last weekend, while earlier that day Eintracht Frankfurt were blitzing their way to a third win in four to continue their sensational start to the new year. The latter will travel to Signal Iduna Park full of confidence because of their recent exploits, however, this is a daunting assignment and one which could prove too much for them.

Borussia Dortmund Vs Eintracht Frankfurt – Key Facts:

  • Six of the seven league wins accrued at home this season by Borussia Dortmund featured a minimum of four match goals.
  • Only two of the seven defeats recorded by Eintracht Frankfurt away from home this season were ‘to nil’.
  • Borussia Dortmund are on an eight-match winning streak as the home side in this fixture, with Eintracht Frankfurt’s last away win dating back to 2010.

At home this season, Dortmund are immense. Ten such matches returned seven wins and no losses, all whilst averaging close to four goals-a-game. Contrast this to a Frankfurt side which has won only twice but lost seven of its ten away fixtures thus far. This without even mentioning how poor the latter’s record as the away side in this particular fixture is: Frankfurt have tasted defeat on each of the past eight visits to Dortmund in the Bundesliga, last managing a win there in February 2010.
