Brentford Preview – Can Bees post back to back wins?

Brentford produced a comprehensive 5-2 home win over Leeds United last time out in the Premier League which also extended The Bees’ unbeaten run to three matches having previously picked up points in draws with Everton and Crystal Palace, so the hosts will be quietly confident that they can engineer a result of sorts on Sunday lunchtime.

With just one defeat out of their six games so far in this new Premier League season, Thomas Frank’s side have made a solid start to this campaign which includes the particular highlight of recording the comprehensive 4-0 victory over Manchester United, which has helped contribute to Brentford’s early top half position of 9th place prior to this weekend.

The bigger picture shows Brentford have made themselves a tough side to beat in the English top flight as the hosts have suffered just four defeats out of their last 17 matches overall, three of which were losses incurred on their travels away from home at Leicester City, Manchester United and Fulham.

On home soil at their Gtech Community Stadium, Brentford have lost just one of their last eight matches which was a 2-1 loss to Leeds United towards the end of last season when Leeds were fighting for Premier League survival, but The Bees have also picked up five wins in the process, recording wins against Burnley, West Ham, Southampton, Manchester United and Leeds United as well.

Frank is likely to be without midfielder Christian Noregaard who ha staken a knock along with defender Ethan Pinnock (muscle injury), while midfielder Sergio Canos is rated as doubtful with a thigh injury.

Arsenal Preview – Can Gunners build on midweek win?

Arsenal registered a welcome 2-1 win away from home at FC Zurich during the week in the group stage of the Europa League and manager Mikel Arteta will have been pleased with his side’s response to their 3-1 loss away from home at Manchester United in their preceding game in the Premier League.

The Gunners have now won seven out of their last eight competitive matches and look a more cohesive unit now under Arteta whose side is now reaping the benefits of a patient board as the Spaniard was given time to allow his players to gel. Defeat last time out to United however, hasn’t prevented Arsenal from claiming an early top spot in the Premier League table.

Five wins out of their opening six matches overall have seen Arsenal pick up valuable victories over Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Bournemouth, Fulham and Aston Villa, while the bigger picture underlines the improvements that The Gunners have made in recent times as the visitors have won 10 of their last 13 matches overall.

However, results away from home have continued to be a concern for Arteta as his side have been prone to inconsistency on their travels and this has become evident with the north London side losing five out of their last nine outings on the road, incurring losses at Crystal Palace, Southampton, Tottenham, Newcastle United and Manchester United, so perhaps this upcoming lunchtime clash with Brentford is no foregone conclusion, especially as they were handed a 2-0 defeat in their last visit to Brentford.

Arsenal are set to be without midfielders Emile Smith-Rowe, Mohamed Elneny and Oleksander Zinchenko who are all injured, along with forward Reiss Nelson. Midfielder Thomas Partey is a doubt for Sunday’s clash with a thigh injury and may need to pass a late fitness test.
