Preview: Sunday’s Premier League meeting at Brentford Community Stadium pits two teams hopelessly out of form against one another. Brentford are winless in five, having won once at home all season, but are facing a depleted Everton side that has picked up fewer points across the last six rounds (two) than any other team in England’s top tier.

Brentford – Toney can build on St James’ exploits?

The Bees could not have wished for a more productive start to life in the Premier League, averaging 1.7 points per game across their opening seven fixtures having taken points from Arsenal, Liverpool and West Ham among others. However, reality has since hit Thomas Frank’s side who, after last Saturday’s absorbing 3-3 draw at St James’ Park with Newcastle, are without a league win for five matches (D1 L4).

Injuries haven’t helped. Frank is set to do without a host of first-team regulars for Sunday’s visit of out-of-sorts Everton. At least he has his first-choice strike partnership back, with Bryan Mbeumo and Ivan Toney especially tormenting Newcastle’s fragile backline last time out. Toney probably should have left his former stomping ground with a hat-trick but had to settle for one – his first strike since mid September.

Brentford may not enjoy a return to home comforts either. Of their 13 points this season, just four, or 31%, which is the lowest ratio in this division, were earned at the Brentford Community Stadium. They have picked up a solitary point across their past five home games – that coming in another 3-3 scoreline, versus Liverpool – losing each of the last three against Chelsea, Leicester and Norwich by single-goal margins.

Everton – Thin ice melting beneath Benitez?

With one win from nine competitive fixtures, it may not be long before the atmosphere on Merseyside sours. Rafael Benitez was a controversial appointment from the outset and although his new side begun with a real flourish, winning four of the opening six league games, there has been little for supporters to cheer about of late. You sense, therefore, that a positive outcome is badly needed from this visit to West London.

Fortunately, this region of the country has served them very well in recent times. In fact, Everton have won five of their last six Premier League games in London, which as many as they had in their previous 32 visits to the English capital. This is their first such trip this season, though, and it comes at a time when first-team numbers remain dangerously light. Richarlison and Demarai Gray becoming the latest absentees.

This goes some way to explaining a dismal run of two points in six games, last seen winning 2-0 at home to then-bottom side Norwich on 25 September. Away from home it is one win all season (D2 L3). That was against Brighton at the end of August, a game that saw the Toffees register their only clean sheet on the road thus far. They have since shipped nine goals in four subsequent Premier League away outings.

Brentford Vs Everton Betting Advice

Despite going more than three months, since beating Arsenal 2-0 on the opening night of the season, without winning a Premier League home game, Brentford begin Saturday as firm favourites to pick up their first win in six (D1 L4). This has more to do with the recent travails of an Everton side lacking in numbers, whether that be playing personnel or points on the board. The Toffees are without a win in the league since September.

Brentford Vs Everton – Key Facts:

  • Both Brentford (W3 D4 L5) and Everton (W4 D3 L5) begun the 2021-22 Premier League term brightly, but are coming off winless run of five and six matches respectively.
  • Brentford have earned only four of their 13 points this season in home games (W1 D1 L4), one fewer than Everton managed from their six away fixtures (W1 D2 L3).
  • Ivan Toney found the net for the first time in seven league games in last week’s 3-3 draw at Newcastle. The Bees striker is yet to score a Premier League goal at home.

Taking both sides recent struggles into account, the draw instantly appeals. However, the visitors bloated absentee list is impossible to ignore with Richarlison (suspended) and Demarai Gray (injured) joining a host of influential first-team unavailable for selection. Ivan Toney looked back to his best at Newcastle and against an Everton side that has conceded 2+ in four of six away league games, should get further chances.
