The January pick up of Cristian Eriksen on a free transfer always looked exciting. But surely not even the most optimistic of Brentford fans – nor even the player himself – would have expected the Dane to make his return to the Premier League seem as though he never actually left. It is no coincidence then that since earning his first start at the beginning of March, the Bees have won three of four league games (L1).

Key Stat: Brentford halted a four game winless home run (D1 L3) when beating Burnley 2-0 in their most recent outing at the Brentford Community Stadium. Both goals were scored by Ivan Toney, meaning he has now scored all of the Bees last four home goals.

 

 

West Ham – More away frustration for weary Hammers?

Periods of respite are few and far between at this stage of the season. This is especially true for teams like West Ham who are competing on multiple fronts. On Thursday they were digging in valiantly, while down to ten men for the entirety of the second half, for a 1-1 draw versus Lyon in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final. Less than 72 hours later they resume their bid for consecutive top-six league finishes.

The Hammers sit sixth ahead of this weekend, level on points with Man Utd in seventh and only three behind fourth-place Tottenham. David Moyes knows his team cannot afford to lose focus with so many teams vying for so few European berths, and so changes from midweek could be sparse. One thing that is in need of change, however, is their recent away form, having not won on the road since New Year’s Day (D1 L3).

Key Stat: Last week’s 2-1 win at home to Everton was West Ham’s 10th one-goal victory in the Premier League this season, with only Wolves (11) doing so more often.

Brentford Vs West Ham Betting Advice

Only Chelsea have earned more points from their London derbies this season than Brentford, who won 2-1 at the London Stadium when these sides met in October. The Bees were in a good place at the time, having lost one of their opening six league games. They enter Sunday’s fixture in a similarly upbeat frame of mind on the back of three wins in their last four matches, the latest a stunning 4-1 victory at Chelsea.

 

 

A combination of midweek exertions (West Ham were forced to play the whole second half of Thursday’s Europa League game against Lyon with a man less) and some poor recent results on the road (D1 L3) would make the Hammers ordinarily vulnerable. This is especially true, however, against a Brentford side with the bit between their teeth. Yet it is just one win in five as hosts for the Bees, who may have to settle for a point.
