Preview: Despite a lousy record at The Amex this season, as well as the fact they lie 15 points worse off in the Premier League table, Brighton enter into Monday’s final top-flight fixture of the weekend as favourites to beat an Everton side boasting one of the better away records in 2020/21.

Brighton – Seagulls have the beating of opponents?

With Friday’s result at Craven Cottage, after 18th placed Fulham were beaten with essentially the last meaningful attack of the match, an opportunity presents itself to Brighton (W7 D11 L12) in which victory on Monday in the final fixture of the round could see them move nine points clear of danger in the battle to avoid the drop. No shortage of incentive therefore, ahead of a fixture they tend to thrive in.

The Seagulls are yet to lose a home Premier League game against Everton. Having shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in the first of those clashes in October 2017, Brighton subsequently won the next two here, 1-0 and 3-2, coming from behind in last season’s corresponding fixture. Although Opta do kindly tell us that the South Coast outfit are still without a Premier League win when playing on a Monday (D6 L3).

Graham Potter’s side were also unfortunate last time out to lose 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford to Manchester United. However, that brought their tally of points dropped from winning positions this season to 20, which is a league-high. Potter’s men also possess one of the worst home records in the top-flight, with no team recording fewer wins than their two from fifteen such matches (W2 D7 L6).

Everton – Toffees should relish trip away?

A second successive Monday night outing in the Premier League for Everton (W15 D5 L10), who will hope to fare better than in their 1-1 draw seven days earlier with a middling Crystal Palace side who struck late to dent the Toffee’s Champions League aspirations. That was at Goodison Park, though, where their form has been suspect for quite some time now, and so this venture south should come as a welcome reprieve.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side boast the fourth-best away points return in the Premier League, registering 29 of a possible 45 points (W9 D2 L3) on their travels with only Leicester and the two Manchester clubs recording more. They were unbeaten in nine such matches, meanwhile, prior to a 2-0 defeat at in-form Chelsea before the March international break which halted a run of ten successive away matches scoring at least once.

The Toffees, and their leading marksman in particular, can be confident about a return to scoring ways on Monday. Everton have scored a league-high 12 goals from headers this term, with Calvert-Lewin responsible for six having contributed more goals (14) than any other team-mate. Moreover, no Premier League team this season has conceded a higher proportion of their goals from headers than Brighton.

Brighton vs Everton Betting Advice

Everton’s top-four push appears to be grinding to a shuddering halt after taking one point from the last nine available to them. They remain one of the best teams in the division away from home, though, with one loss in their last ten such matches. They were also mighty unfortunate not to pick up all three points last time, absolutely bossing their contest with Crystal Palace (EVE 2.83 – 0.77 CRY).

Brighton Vs Everton – Key Facts:

  • The home team has won six of the past seven Premier League meetings between these sides, with Brighton keen to preserve a three-match unbeaten record as hosts (W2 D1).
  • No team in the Premier League has recorded fewer wins in home matches this season than Brighton (2), while only Leicester and Man City boast more away wins than Everton (9).
  • Brighton are looking to register back-to-back home league wins for the first time since November 2019. They face an Everton side now winless in three but with only one loss across their last nine away league outings (W7 D2).

Whereas Everton excel on the road, Brighton invariably toil here at The Amex where no team in this season’s top-flight has recorded fewer wins so far. Yet they now have an opportunity to win back-to-back home league games for the first time since November 2019, after thrashing Newcastle 2-0 last month, and do tend to relish this fixture (W2 D1 at home to Everton in Premier League). But can they truly be trusted?
