Preview: With three wins in their past five Premier League games, Brighton are among the in-form teams in the English top-flight. However, the Seagulls are still searching for a first win at Amex Stadium since December and have not beaten Saturday’s opponents Manchester United in the league since 2018.

Brighton – Seagulls soaring towards maiden top-half finish?

Victory last time out against Wolves, thrashing the side directly above them in the Premier League table 3-0 at Molineux, lifted Graham Potter’s team up into ninth and continued what has been an excellent run of form for the south coast outfit. It marked a third league win in five matches (D1 L1) for a side which had managed only three in their previous 25 fixtures in the competition. That is some turnaround.

Now, according to the boffins at Opta, the Seagulls hold a one in three chance of securing a first ever top-half finish in the Premier League. The fact two of their final three fixtures are at home should be cause for encouragement then. However, each of their past five victories have come away from their Amex Stadium where they are currently winless in eight (D4 L4) since beating Brentford 2-0 on Boxing Day.

Key Stat: After winning two of their first three Premier League meetings with Manchester United, Brighton have since lost all of the last six between the sides.

Manchester United – Can Red Devils build on Brentford positives?

The Red Devils picked up only their second win in seven league games by comprehensively beating Brentford 3-0 at Old Trafford on Monday night. Cristiano Ronaldo grabbed himself a couple, taking him on to 18 league goals for the season and to within four of Mo Salah in the Golden Boot race, in what was a vastly improved showing from a team that had taken one point from the previous nine.

In truth, United have had a tough bout of fixtures lately. Even so, some of the displays were abject. Therefore, it would be wise not to get carried away with the performance against Brentford, who had been in decent form but have nothing to play for. Especially as they will be travelling for both remaining games. Ralf Rangnick’s men are currently on a run of four successive away defeats, scoring only twice but conceding 12.

Key Stat: Manchester United haven’t won any of their past four Premier League games (D2 L2) versus sides starting the day in the top-half of the table (opponents Brighton are 9th).

Brighton Vs Manchester United Betting Advice

Positive Man United performances as a collective have been fleeting under Ralf Rangnick. Monday’s win at home to Brentford was just their second in seven games (D2 L3). Away from home, meanwhile, they have lost each of the last four, their longest run of consecutive away league defeats since losing six on the spin in 1981! However, they do typically enjoy facing the Seagulls, winning the last seven league meetings.

Brighton Vs Manchester United – Key Facts:

  • Manchester United have won all of the seven previous meetings between the teams (league and cup), scoring two or more each time. The Red Devils won a dramatic encounter 3-2 at Amex Stadium last season.
  • Bruno Fernandes scored a famously late winner from the penalty spot in last season’s victory on the south coast, meaning the Portuguese has never failed to provide either a goal or an assist when facing the Seagulls.
  • Brighton are the form team of the two, though. Graham Potter’s men boast three wins in five league games but none in their last eight as the home side (D4 L4).

For all Brighton’s form has taken a turn for the better, here at Amex Stadium it is still no win in 2022 (D4 L4). That, coupled with their dire head-to-head record, would suggest Man Utd are deservedly favourites to secure back-to-back wins in the league for only the third time in 2022. I’m keen on Bruno Fernandes, though, the Portuguese having never failed to either score or assist in his four head-to-head appearances.
