English Premier League
Pick: Both Teams to Score NO
Odds: 5/4

Preview: The points were shared when the teams met at the King Power Stadium in September, with Burnley twice taking the lead only to be pegged back on each occasion by a spirited Leicester City. That wasn’t entirely unusual for this particular fixture, however, as all of the previous five league meetings saw the team scoring first not go on to win the match.

Burnley – Clarets to make it five unbeaten at Turf Moor?

After winning one of seventeen league games so far this season, including none of the previous seven (D4 L3), it comes as no surprise that Burnley remain entrenched in the relegation zone. If anything, they can consider themselves fortunate to be only two points from safety – with a first win against Leicester since January 2020 enough to lift the Clarets out of the bottom three should Watford fail to beat Newcastle.

Confidence within the Burnley camp is unlikely to be high, though, following last week’s humbling FA Cup exit to Huddersfield. Reports of last season’s top scorer, Chris Wood, is set for a January move to relegation rivals Newcastle only adds to the gloom enveloping the Lancashire club, who have one solitary win from their past 20 top-flight matches (D8 L11). Although they are currently unbeaten in four at Turf Moor.

Key Stat: Burnley’s last two Premier League games both produced the same outcome, a 3-1 defeat. The last time they conceded 3+ in three consecutive league games was in November 2018.

Leicester City – Rodgers forced to name another depleted side?

Forget predicting Saturday’s outcome at Turf Moor. The real challenge is in correctly predicting the Leicester City line-up. Just eight senior players were available for last weeks FA Cup tie versus Watford, making the resulting 4-1 victory all the more impressive, and meant Tuesday’s rescheduled league fixture away to Everton had to be postponed for a second time owing to a lack of first-team numbers in the Foxes camp.

Brendan Rodgers should welcome enough players back for this fixture to get the go ahead. However, talisman Jamie Vardy won’t be among them. The striker is out injured for a number of weeks, and with Kelechi Iheanacho on AFCON duty and Patson Daka doubtful, it does leave an attack which had been in excellent scoring form – netting a combined 15 in their last six league games – worryingly light.

Key Stat: Victory over Liverpool in their most recent Premier League outing earned Leicester their third successive home win in the competition. However, away from home it is two points taken from the last 12 available (D2 L2) since a 2-1 win at Brentford in October.

Burnley Vs Leicester Betting Advice

Saturday’s meeting will be the 14th held between the sides in the Premier League. Burnley have won only three of these (D4 L6). All three were here at Turf Moor, however, where they have lost one of five previous head-to-heads (W3 D1 L1). Surprisingly, goals are the norm when these teams meet. All of the last six produced Both Teams to Score, including their clash at the King Power in September that finished 2-2.

Burnley Vs Leicester City – Key Facts:

  • Both Teams to Score has delivered a winning bet in each of the last six Premier League meetings between these sides, with the pair playing out a 2-2 draw in their first meeting of 2021-22.
  • Burnley are out to protect their four-game unbeaten streak at home in the league (W1 D3), against a Leicester side keen to end a four-game winless away run in the competition (D2 L2).
  • A win may be a step too far for the hosts, however. Burnley have only managed one win across their last 20 top-flight fixtures, though that was at Turf Moor (3-1 vs Brentford).

All nine Leicester away league games this season has produced both teams scoring. So there is every chance we could be set for a seventh consecutive meeting in which both teams profit in the final third. I’m more inclined to think the opposite, though, as both managers will be missing key attackers. Burnley look set to be without Chris Wood while Leicester are missing Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho.
