Chelsea take on Greek outfit PAOK at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night as the betting tips continue for match day 5 in the Europa League.
Chelsea have already qualified for the knockout rounds of the competition as they top Group L with the maximum 12 points so far having won all four of their group matches to date. However, their 3-1 defeat away at Tottenham on the weekend will mean that manager Maurizio Sarri will demand a much better performance from his side on Thursday night.
The hosts have registered wins over PAOK 1-0, Videoton 1-0 along with 3-1 and 1-0 wins home and away over BATE Borisov. Chelsea come into this clash having won their last seven matches on the trot in all competitions, but Eden Hazard is likely to be rested as he’s carrying a slight knock.
PAOK must take all three points tonight in the nation’s capital if they’re to stand any chance of progressing further in the Europa League as they sit on just three points and are three points adrift of second placed Videoton who travel to bottom club, BATE tonight.
PAOK’s 4-1 thrashing of BATE away from home has been their only success so far in this competition as they’ve lost to Chelsea and home and away to Hungarian side Videoton, so confidence isn’t likely to be sky-high for their trip to London.
In addition, just one away win from their last five on their travels at this level suggests they’ll find it tough going against a Chelsea outfit who will be keen to go some way to making amends for their recent defeat to Tottenham.
With Hazard likely to be rested and Sarri giving game time to his fringe players, the betting tips are still backing a Chelsea win but there’s not likely to be many goals here I feel.
