Chelsea Preview – Can Chelsea open account at The Bridge?
It’s been a mixed start to Chelsea’s domestic season so far this term as The Blues started their top flight schedule with a convincing 3-1 win away from home at Brighton, but have since experienced mixed emotions in subsequent matches.
A 2-0 defeat at home to Liverpool was extremely disappointing for Chelsea who may have felt that they could upset the title-holders, Liverpool, and although Chelsea bounced back by inflicting a 6-0 backlash upon hapless Barnsley in the League Cup, it did feel a little like locking the stable door after the horse had bolted.
A 3-3 draw away from home at West Brom in last week’s Premier League was tempered by a loss on penalties in the League Cup against Tottenham, so literally anything could happen at Stamford Bridge in this upcoming local London clash with Crystal Palace, but I daresay Frank Lampard will be demanding all three points here.
Crystal Palace Preview – Can Palace bounce back?
Although Crystal Palace were bundled out of the League Cup at an early stage, losing on penalties away at Bournemouth, Roy Hodgson would have been pleased by his team’s promising start to this season’s Premier League campaign – until last weekend of course.
After earning a point in a 1-1 draw at home with Tottenham on the opening day of the new top flight season, Palace then grabbed back-to-back wins with victories over Southampton 1-0 at home before inflicting a heavy 3-1 defeat upon Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Hodgson will therefore be scratching his head as to why his side suffered defeat at home to Everton in the following match, and they now face a tough assignment against Chelsea who’ll be desperate to record their first home win of the season after losing to Liverpool last time out at Stamford Bridge.
