England’s Dan Evans has made it through to the semi-finals of ATP Dubai. Can he now take the journey one step further in what is the fourth semi-final of his career? He will be up against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final four.

Evans impressive in victory over Rublev

The tournament so far in Dubai has been an entertaining one from Evans. In the opening round of the event, he had to fight back from dropping the first set to beat Fabio Fognini.

That put him through to a contest against Pierre-Hugues Herbert. 29-year-old Evans just squeezed through that after a tie-break in the deciding set. Evans had survived three match points in that game.

In his quarter-final against the in-form Next Gen star Andrey Rublev, the Englishman produced his best form of the competition so far winning 6-2, 7-6. Just to put that into context, Rublev started the season with an eleven match winning streak

If he were to get through this tussle with Tsitsipas it would put Dan Evans through to his third ATP Final after 2017 Sydney and 2019 Delray Beach.

Evans, ranked 37th in the world, was aggressive and assured against Rublev. He will need more of that as he takes on Tsitsipas for the first time.

Greek star Tsitsipas can keep the momentum going

Stefanos Tsitsipas had to grind one out in the quarter-finals. He was up against Jan-Lennard Struff and was taken to three sets.

There was no point in the match where Tsitsipas really looked all that comfortable.

The final set was sitting at 4-4 and that’s the point where the Greek star really turned the screw.

After a slow start to the 2020 season, Tsitsipas has started to go up through the gears. He retained his Open 13 Provence crown title last weekend and so the 21-year-old is not going to be easy for Evans to knock over.

Tsitsipas hit form this time last year and he was the losing finalist at the ATP Dubai event 12 months ago. He missed out on the title in straight sets against Roger Federer.

That was just his second attempt at the event after having reached the quarters in 2018 on his debut.

Dan Evans vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Betting Advice

Evans was brilliant against Rublev, a player who has enjoyed plenty of form in 2020. Evans was aggressive and gave the Russian all sorts of problems with some backhand slices.

Key Facts – Dan Evans vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Betting Tip

  • Dan Evans is in his fourth ATP Tour semi-final
  • Dan Evans beat the in-form Andrey Rublev in the third round
  • Stefanos Tsitsipas was last year’s Dubai losing finalist

Tsitsipas meanwhile wasn’t looking at his best in his quarter-final contest at all. But he battled through and will have been relieved to have gotten that one out of the way.

There should be better to come from Tsitsipas and he has gotten back to something like his best form in general.

Tsitsipas to win is the pick, as it’s just hard to see Evans taking back to back wins against top players who are in-form.
