Everton fell to a third defeat in four matches in the English top flight last Saturday when they went down 2-1 away at Burnley, despite being a goal to the good at Turf Moor.

A spirited fightback from Burnley saw The Clarets take the spoils, but Everton only had themselves to blame as they took the foot off the pedal and missed a few chances to secure a 2-0 lead, which would have more than likely been enough to get them something from that match.

Manager, Sam Allardyce, now needs to be extremely careful as the natives are starting to get restless, given the amount of money the club spent during the summer transfer window has yet to be transferred into positive results on the pitch. On a positive note though, The Toffees have suffered just one defeat from their last nine at Goodison Park, with an overall home record of  8-2-4  23/18, which includes recent back-to-back wins over Leicester City and Crystal Palace.

Brighton picked up a third league win from their last four outings last weekend when they further added to Arsene Wenger’s woes at Arsenal as they beat The Gunners 2-1 at the Amex Stadium, and this also extended Brighton’s unbeaten run to five matches at a crucial time of the season.

Chris Hughton’s side have picked up points at just the right time with earlier wins over Swansea City and West Ham along with taking points off Southampton and Stoke City away from home, and The Seagulls now sit in 10th place and hold a useful seven point cushion above the bottom three.

However, switch to results away from home, and the picture doesn’t look so rosy for the south coast club as they’ve now gone eight matches without a win on their travels amidst an overall away record of  2-4-8  7/17. It’s also become glaringly obvious that they lack the necessary firepower to hurt teams away from home, and this is underlined by the fact that they’ve failed to score in 9 of their 14 away matches to date.

Everton should not lose this one.
