Preview: In the last of four Premier League fixtures taking place this Sunday, struggling Fulham go in search of a much-needed win away to Everton. The latter boast a formidable record in this fixture, though, and can boost their own claims of a return to European competition with three points at Goodison Park.

Everton – Home inconsistencies hampering European push?

The team playing at home has won 23 of the 29 Premier League meetings between these two clubs, with Everton (W11 D4 L6) boasting a perfect record of 14 wins from 14 such matches here at Goodison Park versus Fulham. Yet a 3-2 win for the Merseysiders at Craven Cottage earlier in the season went somewhat against the grain of this fixture, and means the Toffees can complete a rare league double on Sunday.

Much could depend, ,on how quickly some of those who were involved in Wednesday’s pulsating FA Cup tie here against Tottenham recover. Some were visibly fatigued (marauding full-back Lucas Digne) and others clearly sustained knocks (top scorer Calvert-Lewin). The positive, of course, will be that Everton progressed on to the last-eight, after edging a nine-goal classic 5-4 in extra-time.

Everton have now won just one of their previous seven competitive matches on home soil inside 90 minutes, and are winless in the league at Goodison Park in three (D1 L2) having lost 2-0 to Newcastle last time out. It is a run which could get worse before it improves. Especially should Calvert-Lewin not recover in time – his 13 goals league goals this season have been worth a league-high 14 points.

Fulham – Goals urgently needed in survival mission?

Only Burnley, the team eight points better off in seventeenth and who they are desperately trying to catch with sixteen games still to be played, have fired a blank in more Premier League games this season (12) than 18th-placed Fulham (W2 D9 L11). This after the Cottagers were held at home to a 0-0 draw by West Ham in their latest fixture – their fourth goalless encounter of 2020-21, a league-high alongside Man Utd.

Scott Parker was nonetheless encouraged by what he saw last time. The Fulham manager has also overseen a dramatic improvement defensively, with his team averaging 1.08 goals conceded since losing 3-2 at home to Everton in November. Unfortunately, though, they have only managed one win (1-2 vs Leicester) ever since, while their current 12-game winless streak (D8 L4) is the longest in the top-flight.

If the West London outfit are to defy the odds and stay up, goals up the other end of the field are urgently needed. Only fellow strugglers Burnley and Sheffield United have netted fewer times this season than Fulham’s 17 from 22 matches. Parker’s men would fail to find the back of the net in three of their past four league fixtures, although did manage to do so in three of their current four-game unbeaten away run (D4).

Everton Vs Fulham Betting Advice

There are doubts in the home camp regarding one or two key players, notably James Rodriguez and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. This will be music to the ears of Fulham boss Scott Parker whose side desperately need to start winning matches if they are to clamber out of the Premier League’s bottom three anytime soon. A point may suffice, though, which is how all of their past four away encounters have gone.

Everton Vs Fulham – Key Facts:

  • Here at Goodison Park, Everton are winless across their last three Premier League games (D1 L2). However, three of their four home wins this season seen them also concede.
  • Fulham currently hold the longest winless run in the Premier League (12 games – D8 L4), but are unbeaten on their travels in four after four successive draws away from home.
  • Another away stalemate for Scott Parker’s men seems unlikely, though. Everton have won all 14 Premier League home meetings versus Fulham.

History tells us that Fulham never take anything away from Goodison Park, losing all 14 away Premier League meetings. Yet they’ve become a hard-working, well organised unit under Scott Parker, albeit one light on goals. They are also comparatively well rested. Everton, meanwhile, could be feeling the effects of 120 minutes of end-to-end action against Tottenham in midweek. I’ll oppose the hosts, whose home record is unremarkable (W4 D2 L4).
