A quick delve into the Scottish second tier as I take a look at the clash between Falkirk and Queen of the South as third placed Falkirk look to maintain their pressure upon the two leading clubs in the division, namely Hibernian and Dundee United.
Falkirk have shown some strong form on home turf so far this season as their overall record of 5-1-2 15/10 indicates, and they’ve also won the joint highest number of home matches in the division to date along with second placed Dundee United.
The home side head into this afternoon’s encounter on the back of a four-match run without defeat as they’ve collected wins against Ayr United and St Mirren along with taking points off Morton and Hibernian in 1-1 draws – the latter being away at the current Championship league leaders.
Visitors Queen of the South suffered another setback during the week when they lost 3-2 at home to St Mirren which became their seventh Championship defeat on the trot as the rot seems to have well and truly set in for the visitors.
Queen of the South’s away record has also dipped as it now stands at 2-2-3 5/8 having lost their last three matches on their travels with defeats at Ayr United, Raith Rovers and Hibernian. It’s interesting to note that the latter result ended in a heavy 4-0 loss for Queen of the South compared to Falkirk’s solid point.
In addition, the visitors have failed to hit the back of the net in their last four away matches and this lack of cutting edge up front from the visitors may well have a bearing on this afternoon’s outcome.
