Frankfurt Preview – Win drought lingers on for Die Adler?

Five Bundesliga games without a win but leading 3-2 on the road at high-flying Union Berlin, having earlier trailed 2-0 inside the opening six minutes,. For Eintracht Frankfurt (W2 D6 L1) not to have held on for three precious points could have a demoralising effect ahead of a formidable run of fixtures. Four of last season’s top seven await in the next five rounds, welcoming a wounded Dortmund to Deutsche Bank Park on Saturday.

The Eagles are having your archetypal ‘glass half-full or half-empty’ season. Two wins from nine and no win in the last six (D5 L1), but only one loss thus far, with that coming in the most daunting fixture imaginable away to Bayern Munich. Moreover, Adi Hutter’s saw his side hold second-placed RB Leipzig to a 1-1 draw here in Frankfurt recently, meaning they remain unbeaten (W1 D3) on their own patch in 2020/21.

Since the Bundesliga restart in mid-May, Adrien Silva has netted more Bundesliga goals (15) than all bar Robert Lewandowski (21). The Portuguese forward is Frankfurt’s leading marksman so far this term with seven, netting in six of nine league games including a brace last time out in the 3-3 draw with Union Berlin. Yet only two of his efforts were either at home or the game’s opening goal.

Borussia Dortmund Preview – Favre sweating on Haaland fitness?

Facing opposition that were winless in 18-straight Bundesliga matches meant Borussia Dortmund (W6 L3) were expected to merely brush aside last week’s visitors to Signal Iduna Park. Neither BVB nor their guests read that particular script, though, Lucien Favre’s side going down 2-1 at home to FC Koln, despite doing enough to warrant a better outcome against The Billy Goats (xG: DOR 2.8 – 1.57 FCK).

It was a bad day at the office last time, and while Dortmund have had too many of those already – FC Koln became the third Bundesliga side to inflict a loss on the Black and Yellows since 2020/21 got underway in mid-September – for one man in particular it was out of keeping with what has gone before this season. That man being Erling Haaland, who only has Robert Lewandowski ahead of him in the scoring chart.

Haaland would ultimately fail in his personal crusade to add to his tally of 10 Bundesliga goals for the campaign, a tally inferior only to you-know-who in Bavaria. The Norwegian missed the game’s biggest chance (69%), that with the goal gaping in the 94th minute, and then subsequently missed the next game through injury as Dortmund qualified for the Champions League last-sixteen following a 1-1 draw at home to Lazio.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Borussia Dortmund Betting Advice

With Frankfurt going more than two months since their last win in the league and Dortmund desperate to avoid losing more ground on those towards the top of the Bundesliga standings, Saturday’s meeting at Deutsche Bank Park should bring out the best in both sets of players. Dortmund are unbeaten across the last seven Bundesliga meetings (W4 D3), though are winless in Frankfurt in six visits (D3 L3).

Frankfurt Vs Dortmund – Key Facts:

  • Just one of the nine Bundesliga games involving Frankfurt this season hasn’t featured both teams on the scoresheet – that in their 5-0 away loss to Bayern on Matchday 5.
  • Each of Borussia Dortmund‘s last three Bundesliga game have seen both teams score and an average of five match goals.
  • Borussia Dortmund’s most recent Bundesliga victory away to Eintracht Frankfurt came in 2013 (2-1 win), failing to do so since on six subsequent visits (D3 L3).

Unsurprisingly, as it often the norm in Germany, the goal markets have been appropriately priced with Over 2.5 Goals (8/15) and Both Teams to Score (1/2) serving up little in the way of obvious value. This match-up looks primed for goals, though, and so coupling both bets together could be the way to go. This bet landed in four of Frankfurt’s nine Bundesliga games this season and each of Dortmund’s last three.
