Freiburg – European qualification at risk of disappearing?

Any prospect of Freiburg (8th – W10 D8 L11) competing in Europe next season is diminishing fast, now four points adrift of Hoffenheim in seventh. Since the Bundesliga resumption it has been a mixed bag of disappointing outcomes. Battling gamely versus top-four hopefuls RB Leipzig (1-1, A) and Leverkusen (0-1, H), they would contrive to lose at home to struggling Werder Bremen whilst only coming away from Frankfurt with a point, despite leading 3-1.

The one thing absent so far, then, has been a win, which they never shaped as though they might do last time out against Leverkusen. In fact, according to the xG from their previous game, which showed they created scarce little at Frankfurt, Christian Streich’s men were extremely fortunate to even score three times let alone register a barely deserved point.

A late VAR call denied them in Leipzig, though that, too, would have been entirely undeserved on the balance of play. So these are slightly worrying times for the manager, whose last eight Bundesliga games in charge returned one solitary win – 3-1 at home to newly-promoted Union Berlin, with that result one of just two occasions in the last six home outings Freiburg successfully breached the opposing team’s goal.

Borussia Monchengladbach – Foals firepower too much to handle?

It was impossible not to have been enamoured with the performance of Monchengladbach (3rd – W17 D5 L7) last Sunday. Under the circumstances – frustrated in their previous two contests in which five potentially crucial points were squandered versus Leverkusen (1-3, H) and Werder Bremen (0-0, A) – it was a magnificent effort to blow away a tenacious Union Berlin 4-1 at Borussia-Park.

As has so often been the case in 2019/20, the partnership up front between Alessane Plea and Marcus Thuram was a sight to behold. The duo contributing three of the four goals last weekend as Gladbach emphatically consolidated their position within the Bundesliga’s top-four – though goal difference is still all that is keeping them from dropping out of the Champions League spots.

Every game has a must win feel to it therefore. The Foals will be confident, no doubt, having collected 11 points from the last five away encounters. Held to a goalless in Bremen in their latest away fixture meanwhile, it was the first time Marcos Rose’s side had failed to net on the road since a 2-0 loss at Schalke on 17 January – though they would follow it up by scoring two or more in four straight said matches.

Freiburg Vs Borussia Monchengladbach Betting Advice

An intriguing contest in prospect, with neither contemplating a loss as both continue their pursuit of European football. However, whereas Freiburg have arguably flattered to deceive during a decidedly poor bout of results, Monchengladbach are showing a capacity to really turn it on – albeit there is a lack of consistency to go with it.

Freiburg Vs Monchengladbach – Key Facts

  • Both teams harbour European aspirations for next season – Freiburg four points shy of a Europa League berth and Monchengladbach occupying a Champions League spot in third.
  • Freiburg failed to score in four of their previous six Bundesliga home games, while Gladbach would net at least twice in four of their last five away matches in the competition.
  • This has been a nightmare fixture over the years for Monchengladbach, though, whose last win away to Freiburg dates back to 2007 (D1 L8 since).

Gladbach average 1.57 goals per away game this season, scoring at least twice in four of the last five. That doesn’t bode particularly well for goal-shy Freiburg, who’ve netted no more than one goal in 10 of 14 home games thus far including none at all in four of the last six. Yet history tells us to be wary, with Gladbach without an away win in this fixture in nine attempts since 2009 (D1 L8). Then again, there is probably no more opportune moment to be an away side – or facing an out-of-form Freiburg for that matter.
