Preview: Expect plenty of quips about this being a potential relegation six-pointer, because it certainly looks that way, in what is a meeting between two of the Premier League’s bottom five at Craven Cottage. Can Fulham build on some recent positive displays or will Brighton excel on their travels once again?

Fulham – Parker finally has this team competing?

The Cottagers, written off by some after their early efforts at acclimatising to life back in England’s top tier seen them collect one point from the first six games, had clambered out of the relegation zone for the first time all season after claiming a deserved point at home to Liverpool on Sunday. It was to prove short-lived, though: Fulham (W2 D2 L8) reacquainting themselves with the bottom three owing to Burnley’s victory over Arsenal.

Fulham were good value for their 1-1 draw with the champions. They were made to rue what might have been, though, when Mohamed Salah restored parity from the penalty spot late on, after a wonderful strike from De Cordova-Reid put the West Londoners ahead midway through a first-half they had dominated. Not many teams will create more non-pen xG against The Reds, but Scott Parker’s side did.

A similar display would see them go close to registering only their third win of the season. Their form is such, though, that they come into Wednesday’s fixture boasting more points from their last six league games (7) than their first six (1). While they have now taken six of the last nine available, having stunned Leicester City by winning 2-1 at the King Power Stadium before a timid showing away to Man City.

Brighton – Potter’s men prefer playing away?

On a weekend when two of the teams below them managed to avoid defeat, it was clear Brighton (W2 D4 L6), who slipped to within two points of the Premier League relegation places, were among the biggest losers once they had fallen to a 3-0 loss at Leicester. Graham Potter’s side are now hovering precariously above the bottom three ahead of meetings before Christmas with teams currently 18th and 20th.

The Seagulls play host to rock-bottom Sheffield United this coming weekend with The Blades still seeking their first win of the campaign. Before then, Potter takes his team to West London for what promises to be another exacting task, up against a Fulham side seemingly revitalised and whom recently held champions Liverpool in front of 2,000 raucous supporters on Sunday inside Craven Cottage.

Travelling has suited Brighton though, the South Coast outfit registering 70 per cent of their total points, both league victories, as well as nine of their 15 goals away from The Amex, where they are yet to win in 2020/21. However, it is now one win overall in ten (W1 D4 L5), and just one point from the last nine since beating Aston Villa 2-1 at Villa Park last month, losing 3-0 at Leicester in their most recent away outing.

Fulham Vs Brighton Betting Advice

Just two points now separate Fulham in 18th from Brighton in 16th, with the pair languishing around the relegation places after combining for just four wins in 24 league games between them this term. Arguably it was Fulham who arrive with more confidence, buoyed by their impressive display against Liverpool here at Craven Cottage but also having lost only once in three league games (W1 D1 L1).

Fulham Vs Brighton – Key Facts:

  • A minimum of two goals have been scored in each of the six matches Fulham have contested at Craven Cottage this season, with Over 2.5 Goals landing in four.
  • None of Brighton‘s six away fixtures this term have featured fewer than two goals, with all but one returning Over 2.5 Goals including in both victories.
  • This fixture produced an average of five goals on the only previous instance of them meeting in the Premier League (2018/19), with Fulham winning 4-2 at home after a 2-2 draw in Brighton.

For Brighton, they arrive on the back of successive defeats, to Southampton and Leicester, and with one win in the league in ten (W1 D4 L5). Yet they’ve clearly preferred the freedom that comes with playing as the away side. The Seagulls notching both of their wins thus far, along with nine of their 15 goals, on the road, netting in all five away matches prior to Sunday’s 3-0 scoreline at the King Power Stadium.
