Fulham – Another competitive showing at the Cottage?

Defeat to leaders Arsenal on Saturday put an end to Fulham’s unbeaten start on their return to the Premier League. Marco Silva felt his team were hard done by on the day, particularly with some of the refereeing decisions. However the Portuguese manager can take heart from another impressive display from his team, who have been competitive across all four league encounters so far this term.

Back at Craven Cottage, the setting for a 3-2 victory over Brentford last time out here which saw them earn a first top-flight win since March 2021 (D4 L8 beforehand), the Cottagers will be confident of mounting a swift recovery. Even Liverpool had to settle for a 2-2 scoreline upon visiting Silva’s side on the opening weekend, with Jurgen Klopp’s Reds among six of the past eight visiting teams to concede two or more.

Key Stat: Fulham have only managed to win one of the last 14 top-flight fixtures (D4 L9), while this season’s goalless draw away at Wolves remains the only instance of them keeping a clean sheet over this run.

Brighton – Seagulls yet to come back down to earth?

For a brief period on Saturday afternoon, Brighton were top of the Premier League table. They had just gone in front against a previously unbeaten Leeds United through a controlled finish from Pascal Gross, to move ahead of Arsenal and Man City. Their spell at the summit wouldn’t last long. However it did help shine a light on how impressive the start to the season has been from Graham Potter’s side.

After four games, the Seagulls are keeping some esteemed company as one of three remaining undefeated sides in the Premier League. Brighton have beaten all of Man Utd, West Ham and now Leeds, having also drawn 0-0 at home to Newcastle. Having ended last season unbeaten in five, the club have now set a new record for their longest consecutive top-flight run without incurring a loss, with six wins and three draws.

Key Stat: Brighton have scored in 13 of 15 previous Premier League away games. They’ve won both away matches so far this term, beating Manchester United (2-1) and West Ham United (2-0).

Fulham Vs Brighton Betting Advice

The last time these two clubs faced off in the Premier League, neither could muster up a goal, with both encounters ending 0-0. That was a mere two seasons ago. Therefore many of those expected to line up on Tuesday night will have featured in those games – even if the uneventful nature of them means they are unlikely to be at the forefront of their memories. The odds on the repeat are too big to pass up.

Fulham Vs Brighton – Key Facts:

  • The sides have met four times previously in the Premier League. Only one of these produced a winner, with their pair of meetings across the 2020-21 campaign not producing a single goal.
  • Fulham suffered their first league defeat of the season over the weekend (W1 D2 L1), when they were beaten late on by Arsenal at the Emirates. They’re yet to lose at home, though, since earning promotion last season (W1 D1).
  • Brighton are unbeaten for the season (W3 D1) and are currently enjoying both the longest top-flight run without losing in the club’s history as well as the longest ongoing unbeaten run in the Premier League (W6 D3).

Both sides have remained competitive throughout the season thus far. Fulham were beaten for the very first time last time out, but only after shipping a late winner to an Arsenal side boasting the division’s only remaining 100% record. I am, however, more encouraged about our prospects of seeing a goal this time. Fulham have five goals from two home games so far while Brighton scored twice in both away encounters.
