Gael Monfils has had a great February so far. He has claimed back to back titles and he has just been in resurgent form, climbing his way back into the top ten. The Frenchman has big momentum going at the moment. It could be a tough opening game for Hungarian Marton Fucsovics.

Monfils with momentum
It has been some form produced by Gael Monfils, who is currently ranked at ninth in the world. The Frenchman reached the round of sixteen at the Australian Open where he lost to eventual runner up Dominic Thiem.
But it seemed to get him really sharpened up for the season.
He then went to the Open Sud de France and picked up the title in Montpellier. He was then up for a title defence in Rotterdam in a higher level tournament.
It was a fantastic run that Monfils put together, putting on a real show. He didn’t drop a set during his successful title run.
He was up against young Canadian star Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final and Monfils won comfortably.
The only thing about those titles by Monfils was that they were both at indoors events. But that moves the Frenchman on to a superb W13 L2 record for the season ahead of his return to action in Dubai.
Monfils had a very good run at ATP Dubai last year as well. He opened with a victory over Marin Cilic and he ran through to the semi-final.
He was beaten in a very tight match there by Stefanos Tsitsipas who went on to lose the final against Roger Federer. Three of Monfils’ matches at the ATP Dubai went to three sets.
Can Fuscovics pull off a big upset?
It has been a busy season for Fucsovics. His season started with a run to the quarter-final in Doha after starting in the first qualifying round.
The other big highlight of the season for the Hungarian this year was his run to the round of sixteen at the Australian Open.
He was up against Roger Federer when he lost in four sets. Fuscovics has only played three matches since then, winning one.
His last event was at the Open 13 Provence in Marseille and Fuscovics lost in the first round against Alexander Bublik.

This will be the second appearance in the ATP Dubai draw for Fuscovocis. Last year he did make the quarter-finals at the event, where he met Roger Federer.
The Hungarian lost the match in straight sets against the Swiss legend, who went on to lift the title. The 28-year-old is ranked 70th in the world at the moment.
