American youngster Cori Gauff was dumped out in the first round of the US Open recently, as she was beaten by Anastasija Sevastova in three-sets.

Gauff returned to action after the enforced break at the Top Seed Open in August, reaching the semi finals there.

But a loss in the semi finals there to compatriot Jennifer Brady, sparked a run of three straight defeats, culminating in the loss at the US Open against Sevastova.

So that win that she put on the board in the first round of WTA Rome will have done her the power of good.

It was a fantastic win against a form-player as well, Gauff beating Ons Jabeur in straight sets.

She is likely to face a heavy barrage of Muguruza serves which could grind her down a bit over the course of the match.
