Gent secured a valuable 1-0 win away in Poland in last week’s first leg against Jagiellonia, and Gent take on Jagiellonia on Thursday night as my betting tips in these second legs continue in the Europa League.
The hosts come into this second leg brimming with confidence following their emphatic 4-1 home win over Waasland-Beveren in the Belgian First Division A with goals from Canadian striker David (who has notched 3 goals so far this season), Yaremchuk and Verstraete.
Gent will now be looking for more of the same on Thursday night as they look to put the tie to bed and progress through to the play-offs of this competition. Despite some mixed results at home in recent times in the Europa League, their biggest scalp came in last season’s 1-0 win over Premier League Tottenham.
Jagiellonia make the trip to Belgium looking to overturn a one-goal deficit following last week’s 1-0 loss at their Stadion Miejski in Bia?ystok, which was slightly surprising after they beat Portuguese side, Rio Ave on home turf in the previous round.
The visitors have made a good start to the new Polish Ekstraklasa season as they sit in second place behind early league leaders, Lech Poznan, as they’ve won three of their first four matches of the season.
However, European football is a difficult step up for a lot of teams and having registered just two away wins from their seven away ties to date in this competition, they’ll do well to come out on top against Gent, particularly as they find themselves a goal down heading into this decisive leg.
