A 1-0 win at home to Trabzonspor followed by an excellent 2-1 success in Russia against Krasnodar. Those wins put them top and a couple of points clear of their next opponents. The La Liga club well then travel to Switzerland in a fortnight for the return game.

Basel Preview – Will Basel’s free scoring attack prove to be the difference and take them top of the group?

Unlike their opponents on Thursday, Basel are regular participants in European competition and they will be hoping they can make that experience count over these next couple of games. Currently top of their domestic league, Basel only dropped into the Europa League having been eliminated from Champions League qualification earlier in the campaign. They, too, are still unbeaten after two games but with four points to show. Basel thumped Krasnodar 5-0 at home in their opening group game before an entertaining 2-2 draw in Turkey against Trabzonspor. Whilst they would like to be top, Marcelo Koller will be happy enough with his team’s start. He will be even happier should they take any points from this game and head back home with a chance to take control of the section.
