Getafe – Sanchez with the midas touch in Madrid?

Since the appointment of the former Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores in October, with this his third spell at the Madrid based club, Getafe have won five times in La Liga and collected 21 of a possible 45 points. To put that into some context, the team hadn’t won in eight league games beforehand, losing seven, emphasising the marked improvement in fortunes under the 56-year-old coach.

Getafe now reside in the relative comfort of 16th in the league table, four points above the drop zone and eleven clear of Friday’s opponents Levante at the bottom. They come into the contest having tasted defeat in one of the last nine La Liga outings (W4 D4) – that away at second place Sevilla, and by the slenderest of margins (1-0). They’ve been superb at their Colisuem Alfonso Perez, meanwhile, winning five of the last six.

Key Stat: Getafe’s resurgence under a new manager has been built on some outstanding displays at home. They have won five of their last six as the hosts, are unbeaten since late October (W5 D1), and won each of the last three such fixtures with none more memorable than January’s 1-0 victory over leaders Real Madrid.

Levante – Can Lisci plot end to Granotes rotten away form?

There will envious glances made across the opposing dugout when Levante, who appear on course for a return to the second division after five years back in the Spanish top-flight, make their way to Madrid on Friday evening. This is because the Valencia-based outfit were also pressed into a managerial change recently, but haven’t reaped nearly as much benefit from Alessio Lisci’s appointing in early December.

The 36-year-old had been overseeing  development of the club’s reserves upon stepping up to steer a sinking ship until the end of the term. The ‘Granotes’ hadn’t won a league encounter all season prior to the Italian’s arrival, but are at least got off the mark in six games since (W1 D1 L4). A 2-0 home win over Real Mallorca. His next port of call, therefore, will be halting a dismal sequence of seven successive away losses.

Key Stat: Only two teams have yet to register an away win in La Liga this term and both are involved on Friday evening. Levante are out on their own as the worst travelling side in the Spanish top tier in 2021-22, though, only managing to avoid defeat away to Cadiz and Elche in their ten away outings this season.

Getafe Vs Levante Betting Advice

Both managers will view this fixture as an opportunity to secure three precious points in their quest to avoid demotion from Spain’s top tier. The break in play owing to the delayed European winter break probably stands to benefit Levante more, though, as there can be little doubt Friday’s opponents Getafe were building up ahead of steam prior to the two week hiatus. The hosts are still are pick, however.

Getafe Vs Levante – Key Facts:

  • Prior to their goalless draw in Valencia in October, all of the four prior La Liga meetings between these teams had seen the home side on the day prevail.
  • That means Getafe – unbeaten across each of their past six home La Liga matches, winning the last three in a row – are chasing a third consecutive H2H home win.
  • Furthermore, Levante have toiled away from home all season long. The ‘Granotes’ are one of two sides yet to win on the road (D2 L8) in 2021-22, and are currently on a run of seven consecutive away defeats.

It is incredibly difficult to see past a home victory. For starters, Getafe have been inspired since the appointment of Quique Sanchez Flores, especially here at Coliseum Alfonso Perez where they are unbeaten in six, winning five including each of the last three. This is before even taking into account Levante’s seven straight away defeats coming into this game, or the fact they’ve lost this very fixture two seasons running.
