Getafe Preview – Post-lockdown complacency creeping in?
The prospect of playing in next season’s Champions League is dwindling for Getafe (5th – W13 D10 L8). A costly 1-1 draw in Valladolid last time out, in which a lead given to them by forward Jaime Mata was cancelled out within moments following the concession of a penalty, extended the winless run of Jose Bordalas’ team to five games in La Liga. All the while the gap to the top four positions continues to grow.

A team beaten 2-1 in the reverse fixture and against whom Getafe boast successive home wins, having won 1-0 and 2-1 in last two seasons.
However, if recent head-to-head encounters are something from which to garner positivity from, their recent form on the whole certainly isn’t. Despite a kind schedule that seen them face three of the bottom six sides, Getafe are still without a win since the resumption (D3 L1), scoring only three times – albeit conceded just four in return – and drawing all of the last three with Espanyol, Eibar and Valladolid.

Moreover, a lack of goals since the break – only two scored in four games, with three opponents ranked in the bottom half of La Liga – only hints at further struggles on Monday, facing one of the leanest defences in Spain this season.
