Britain’s Harriet Dart has a great fixture in front of her in the second round of the Australian Open 2020. Her reward for having shown some brilliant fight in the final set of her opening match is a shot against former world number one Simona Halep.

Halep should cruise through second round challenge at Australian Open
Simona Halep is one of the front runners for the title at Melbourne Park this year. She kicked off her campaign with a straight-sets victory over America’s Jennifer Brady. The Romanian took the first set on a tie break before romping to a second-set win, dropping just one game there.
She did get a couple of matches in at the Adelaide International prior to showing up at the Australian Open. While there was not a title forthcoming on that occasion the matches will have sharpened her up at the start of the new year. She did have an injury scare in her opener, needing some medical attention on her wrist after a fall in the first set. But she played down any worries about it afterwards.
Halep reached the final of the 2018 Australian Open and on two other occasions in her career has made it to the quarter finals. The Romanian has been to the final of three of her last eight Grand Slam appearances, winning two titles in her career. Realistically, she should breeze this second-round contest.
Dart’s battling qualities earn her a shot at former world number one
With many of her fellow Britons falling at the first hurdle at Melbourne Park, Dart showed tremendous qualities in her opener. She was up against Misaki Doi in the first round and after dropping the first set heavily, Dart starting putting her foot on the gas.
She tied things up and got the match to a tie-breaker, which she won 10-6 to progress. Dart is a qualifier at the Australian Open which was a big step forward for her as she had failed to qualify for the Brisbane International earlier this month. Dart is currently ranked 164th on the WTA

This is just the second appearance for Dart in the main draw of the Australian Open. She made a first round exit on her debut last year. This is just her fifth appearance in the main draw of a Grand Slam in her career, her previous best effort being a round of 32 appearance at Wimbledon last year.
