Olympic Gold medalist Henry Cejudo is back in UFC action on the weekend. He is the reigning bantamweight champion in the UFC. He was also the holder of the flyweight title too before he vacated that earlier in 2020.

Cejudo has won each of his last five fights now. In that sequence of bouts, he faced some of the best in the business as well, which includes Sergio Pettis and Demetrious Johnson.

Stack up the opponents that he has seen off recently and it’s easy to peg Cejudo as a favourite in this one.

Even though he is giving up four inches in height and four inches in reach to Cruz, Cejudo is on the boil at the moment.

Dominick Cruz can create history on the weekend. He could be the first person ever to win the bantamweight title three times. So why, for one of the most seasoned pros on the circuit, is he the underdog for this one?

The American has been away for a long time. He lost to Cody Garbrandt at UFC 207 in December 2016 and hasn’t been seen since.

So this is a massive comeback for him after losing the Bantamweight title to Garbrandt on the night.

He had been scheduled for fights since 2016, but both times they had to be scrapped because of injury. He comes into this one as a stand-in for Jose Aldo.

So it is worth taking a reminder of what Cruz is about.

At his best, you see Cruz in action and he is just so nimble and changes his angle of attack rapidly. So he’s hard for opponents to catch cleanly and he boasts superb defensive stats as well.

He is not a mug at any aspect of the sport. His movement is superb but has never been the most accurate in landing blows. He’s tough to take down and will want to avoid getting put down against Cejudo.

The longer Cruz stands up and keeps this vertical, the better his chance of causing an upset will be. He was a late replacement so perhaps preparations and the time away could work against him. This could go the distance.
