LASK Preview – Can LASK get all three points and jump above their opponents, improving their qualification chances?

This is LASK’s first taste of the Europa League group stage and it’s one they are hoping to continue beyond Christmas. At the halfway stage of their section, the Austrians have four points  and sit in third spot. Valerien Ismael is looking to continue the excellent work of his predecessor Oliver Glasner who brought so much success, relatively speaking, before moving on to Wolfsburg. Ismael, a former coach of the German club himself, came close to qualifying LASK for the group stages of the Champions League but were eventually undone in the playoff round.

This section got off to a winning start courtesy of a 1-0 win at home to Rosenborg before losing 2-0 in Lisbon against Sporting. The Austrians turned in an excellent defensive display to take a point home with them from Eindhoven last time out and are now looking to follow that up with a home win against that same opponent. Do that and they will be in with a great chance of reaching the knockout stage.

PSV Preview – Will PSV show their European experience and get a result to remain in command on Group D?

It was Champions League disappointment for PSV as well as they were well beaten by Basel in one of the earlier qualifying rounds. The Eredivisie club have dropped into this competition and are playing in the group stages of the Europa League for the first time in five years. It’s been a good start for Mark van Bommel’s team as they sit on the top of the group courtesy of two wins and a draw from their first three games. The draw with LASK last time out came on the back of a 3-2 win at home to Sporting before a thumping 4-0 success in Norway against Rosenborg.

Whilst it’s going well in European terms, PSV have suffered two humiliating defeats domestically in recent weeks. A 3-0 loss away to Utrecht and a 4-0 home defeat to AZ either side of that first meeting with LASK have seen them drop into third spot. The weekend’s 2-2 draw away to Sparta Rotterdam again showed their defensive frailties. Spor

Key-Facts – LASK vs PSV

  • LASK are playing in their first ever Europa League group stage and have acquitted themselves well so far
  • PSV are top of this section but their domestic form has fallen off a cliff and are conceding a plethora of goals
  • The Austrians have lost only one of their last 12 games in all competitions

LASK v PSV Betting Advice

This game is going to have a huge bearing on who qualifies from this section. With Sporting splitting these two in Group D it’s unlikely both will make the knockout stage, especially as the Portuguese club face the whipping boys, Rosenborg, tomorrow. A win looks to be a must for the home team in that instance whilst a draw would be a good result on their travels for PSV.

The big concern for PSV supporters is the number of goals their team are conceding at the moment. It’s now nine goals in their last three league games and whilst LASK may not be the most prolific scorers, they have scored 15 in their last four at home. The loss to Sporting is their only defeat in 12 games and with the pressure building on Van Bommel, the home win looks a good bet tomorrow.
