Leicester – Foxes need to unearth killer instinct at home?

On the back of last Sunday’s hard-fought but thoroughly deserved victory over Tottenham, Leicester (W9 L5) climbed to second in the Premier League, four points behind champions Liverpool. It was their first win away to Spurs since their title winning season of 2015/16,. Although few are getting carried away this time around, that accomplished performance will have given them enormous belief ahead of another stern test.

On the final day of last season, Leicester saw their top-four hopes decimated in this very fixture as they were beaten 2-0 at King Power Stadium to drop to fifth. The response thereafter, though, has been admirable. For the second season in a row, the Foxes occupy second in the table at Christmas, despite incurring more losses (5) than any side currently residing in the top half barring tenth-placed West Ham.

Meanwhile, four of those five defeats came in home games to Aston Villa, Everton, Fulham and West Ham. Failing to score in three. In fact, Brendan Rodgers’ side have suffered more losses on their own patch so far this season than the whole of the last campaign. Moreover, with four of the next five opponents here currently in the top-seven, their lofty position could deteriorate unless issues at home are remedied.

Manchester United – Away day specialists to deliver again at King Power?

Predictably, after another hugely encouraging outing in the league, the topic of conversation has turned to whether Manchester United (W8 D2 L3) are genuine contenders for the title. Right now, it is difficult to argue with what they are doing. Since losing 1-0 to Arsenal in November, the 13-time Premier League champions have collected 19 of 21 points (W6 D1) to close the gap on leaders Liverpool to five points.

Crucially, United have a game in hand – away to Burnley – over most sides at the top of the table. So their position is clearly very strong. As is their record away from home this season, which has been nothing short of astonishing after six wins from six. Having won their final four away fixtures last term, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has overseen a run of ten consecutive victories on the road in the Premier League.

Just two teams – Chelsea and Man City – have ever won 11 consecutive away Premier League games. United, then, stand on the cusp of emulating history. The fact they have done so despite conceding the first goal in all six away games this season is all the more remarkable. However, there is only so many times they get away with gifting teams the lead, and it would be dangerous doing so against a high-flying Leicester.

Leicester City Vs Manchester United Betting Advice

For any team to win ten consecutive Premier League away games, as Manchester United have, is a phenomenal achievement. Six have come this season, despite falling behind on every away outing thus far. They’ve had the determination and guile to fight back each and every time, but this is clearly unsustainable especially when facing some of the division’s stronger, more tactically astute sides.

Leicester City Vs Manchester United – Key Facts:

  • Boasting six wins from seven away Premier League games, it is at home where Leicester have struggled for consistency, losing more times than they have won (W3 L4).
  • Only Chelsea and Man City have won 11 consecutive Premier League away games, a feat Man Utd are within one more away win of equalling.
  • Unbeaten in 11 top-flight meetings with Leicester, Man Utd also boast more wins (21) and the best wining percentage (81%) on Boxing Day in the Premier League.

Leicester have won all eight games in which they have held the lead in this season, which would make any setback for Man Utd difficult to overcome. The Foxes can be erratic at home – with more defeats than wins at the King Power so far (W3 L3). But you don’t beat Man City and Tottenham, albeit away from home, without being a very good side. Meanwhile, goals are usually a given when United travel.
