Liverpool Preview – Can Reds make late surge?
A 2-0 win away from home at bottom club, Sheffield United, earned Liverpool a valuable three points on the weekend and also ended a worrying four-match losing streak which has effectively ended any hopes of defending their Premier League title.
Recent defeats against Brighton, Manchester City, Leicester City and Everton means that Liverpool are now out of the title race as leaders, Manchester City, hold a commanding 22-point lead over Jurgen Klopp’s side but the hosts are still in the frame for a possible top four finish.
Uncharacteristically, Liverpool have also lost their last four matches on the trot at Anfield and indeed are without a win from their last six matches at home but they hold a good record against Chelsea, winning five of the last six meetings against the visitors.
Chelsea Preview – Can Chelsea hold off Reds challenge?
While Liverpool have been struggling with some ordinary results of late in the Premier League, Chelsea are currently enjoying a revival under German manager, Thomas Tuchel, who has helped transform a Chelsea outfit who were low on confidence to a side making a serious challenge for a top four finish following the departure of former manager, Frank Lampard.
Chelsea are now unbeaten in their last seven matches overall, winning four of these seven with wins against Burnley, Tottenham, Sheffield United and Newcastle United and another three points would see The Blues move up into 4th spot at the expense of West Ham.
The visitors have also won two of their last three matches on the road but they’ll face a tough test at Anfield and we’ll see if Chelsea are the real deal or not.
