Liverpool – Reds have rediscovered winning trail?

It might have taken them the best part of August but Jurgen Klopp’s side will now feel they are up and running for the season, after Saturday’s 9-0 mauling of Bournemouth equalled the club record for biggest top-flight victory. Even more remarkable than the score itself was Mohamed Salah playing from start to finish and not coming away with a single goal contribution – something he will be keen to put right on Wednesday.

Salah has enjoyed facing Newcastle, finding the net in all five home appearances as a Reds player. So, at 5/6 in Betfair’s Player To Score market, the Egyptian looks a shrewd pick. As for the team, they’re under pressure to string a few wins together following an underwhelming start (W1 D2 L1). Liverpool have won 12 of their last 14 home league games though, including 3-1 vs Newcastle last December.

Key Stat: Liverpool went unbeaten at home throughout the entirety of last season’s Premier League, winning 15 of 19 league games at Anfield with 11 coming by way of a clean sheet.

Newcastle – Anfield mission hampered by injuries?

Eddie Howe oversaw a third straight Premier League draw last time out as his Newcastle side were rewarded for their dogged persistence at Molineux on Sunday. Allan Saint Maximin’s sublime volley helped not only rescue a point but preserve Newcastle’s unbeaten start to the campaign. They’ve now earned seven of a possible twelve points (W1 D3) this season whilst also progressing in the EFL Cup.

The concern for Howe will be several injuries sustained in that latest outing. Both Kieran Trippier and Allan Saint Maximin were seen grimacing in the second half, with the latter subbed as a result. Already without Bruno Guimares and Callum Wilson, all of a sudden the Magpies are looking a little light. Which is far from optimal as they attempt to eke out a seventh consecutive Premier League game without defeat (W3 D3).

Key Stat: Eddie Howe has lost his last eight Premier League games against Liverpool as a manager, which is only one shy of equalling the longest losing streak for a manager against the Reds.

Liverpool Vs Newcastle Betting Advice

Sorry Bournemouth faced the wrath of a Liverpool side which had undoubtedly underperformed from a points earned perspective in the first few weeks, but which had probably played better than results suggested. The consensus now, then, is that Jurgen Klopp and his team go from strength to strength. Continuing with a home meeting with Newcastle, whose last away win in this fixtures dates back to 1994 (D5 L21 since).

Liverpool Vs Newcastle United – Key Facts:

  • Newcastle are without a Premier League win over Liverpool in their last 11 meetings (D4 L7), while they’ve not beaten them at Anfield since 1994 (D5 L21 thereafter).
  • Liverpool picked up their first win of the season (W1 D2 L1) last time out, equalling the club’s biggest margin of victory in the top-flight in the process (9-0 vs Bournemouth).
  • Newcastle remain unbeaten through four Premier League games this term (W1 D3). However, they would only twice across their last eight away outings (D2 L4).

Newcastle were exceptional against Man City a few weeks ago. However they were still fortunate to escape with a 3-3 draw, plus it was at St James’ Park. Going toe-to-toe with Liverpool at Anfield is something different entirely. One player in particular who will be keen to prove a point will be Mo Salah. The Egyptian just couldn’t find the net at the weekend but absolutely loves facing Newcastle here on Merseyside.
