Mainz Preview – Can Mainz bounce back at home?
Mainz were handed a 3-1 defeat away from home at RB Leipzig in last weekend’s season-opener in the Bundesliga which, admittedly, was a tough fixture to start a new season with, but at least Mainz now return to their OPEL ARENA for this upcoming clash on Saturday against another side who lost their opening match, Stuttgart.

Form at home will have to improve this season though if they’re to maintain their top flight status as just two wins from their final 11 matches at their Opel Arena may not be good enough to ensure their safety this time around; Mainz’s one saving grace though is that they hold a good record over Stuttgart as they’ve won the last four meetings on the trot.
Stuttgart Preview – Can Stuttgart consolidate?
Last season’s runners-up in the Bundesliga 2, Stuttgart, were also handed defeat on the opening day of this new Bundesliga season last weekend when they suffered a 3-2 defeat at home to Freiburg, and they now face a tricky trip to face Mainz this Saturday.
Stuttgart ran a poor second to Bundesliga 2 title-winners, Arminia Bielefeld though as the visitors finished a significant 10 points behind the league winners, while Stuttgart’s promotion campaign was largely thanks to a solid record at home as they lost on just three occasions throughout the season.
However, results away from home were generally fairly ordinary as Stuttgart finished the season with just three wins from their final nine away matches in all competitions, and if this trend continues this season then the visitors could find themselves embroiled in a relegation battle.
