This is a big basement battle between Mallorca and Celta Vigo from La Liga. It could be curtains for Mallorca if they lose this.

They are currently sat third from bottom, eight points adrift of Celta Vigo who are one place above them.

So on the other side of the coin there is a huge chance for Celta Vigo to put a massive three survival points on the board in this one, which would all but guarantee their safety.

Mallorca Preview – It’s now or never for Mallorca

An eight point gap is what Mallorca have to try and make up, with just six games to go.

That’s what they need to get safe. A win in this one however, would reduce the survival margin down to five points.

However, Mallorca are struggling badly at the moment with just one point having been collected from their last five league fixtures.

They also boast the worst defensive record in the top flight currently.

The home form that Mallorca have produced this season stands at W6 D3 L7 but they have taken one point from their last three on home turf.

That was in a recent draw against Leganes, another bottom-three side.

As expected from a team in this position there is nothing much in the goal scoring stats, Mallorca are averaging a tiny fraction over a goal per home fixture.

(odds taken 21:55 GMT Sunday 28 June)

Just 38% of Mallorca’s home games this season have made it above the 2.5 goal line, something to consider for betting options there.

Interestingly, 68% of the goals that they have conceded at home this season have gone against them in the second half of mixtures.

They need a miracle from this point to get safe, but they don’t look likely to bank all three points from this fixture at all, although they are unbeaten in five against Celta Vigo.

Celta Vigo Preview – Visitors to play for a previous point?

Celta Vigo would be happy enough to get a point out of this to maintain that eight-point gap back to Mallorca.

So the draw in the match outright for this one is definitely on our betting radar without question.

There has been some decent form from Celta Vigo actually since the return from the Covid-19 lockdown.

They have strung together a great four match unbeaten streak of league form (W2 D2) and on the weekend played out a 2-2 draw with Barcelona.

Celta Vigo’s away form reads W2 D7 L7 so the away win doesn’t have too much appeal, especially with the trend of them having drawn four of their last five on the road.

From their seven games played against teams currently 12th or lower in the division, Celta Vigo have taken just one point from that sequence.

So this is not a situation where they want to be all gung-ho, it’s likely that they are going to turn up and try and play for that point.

There has been a lack of a goal scoring threat from Celta Vigo on their travels, as they are averaging well under a goal per road fixture.

Only 38% of their away games have made it over 2.5 goals, so again, we can only lean towards this being a low-scoring fixture.

Given that Celta Vigo are unbeaten in 9 of their last 10 La Liga fixtures, they look as if they can be trusted to avoid defeat against Mallorca.

Mallorca vs Celta Vigo Betting Advice

Celta Vigo have banked a clean sheet in each of their last four away games now.

They should be able to shut down what little threat there is to come from Mallorca as an attacking unit.

This has to end up as a low scoring game with under 2.5 goals happening in all but one of Celta Vigo’s last seven road fixtures.

Key Facts – Mallorca vs Celta Vigo Betting Tip

  • Mallorca have taken 1 point of the last 15 available
  • Mallorca hold the worst defensive record in the division
  • Celta Vigo have lost only one of their last 10 league games

Celta would happily walk away from this game with a point in the bag. It would edge them closer to guaranteed safety by knocking another game off the board.

We can’t see Mallorca taking them, so the draw in the match outright has massive appeal as well as under 1.5 goals at 2/1* (betting odds taken from bet365 at 22:45 GMT on Sunday, 28th June 2020).
