It was around this stage last season that Man City’s grip on the Premier League title visibly loosened, following up a disappointing midweek draw in the Champions League by then losing 3-1 at Anfield to Liverpool last November. Sitting a point clear at the top, Liverpool come into Sunday knowing a fourth successive league defeat at the Eithad would not be disastrous – particularly for a side which has exhibited an ability this season to respond well in adversity. The rewards for victory, meanwhile, are great as it would open up an eight-point gap on their closest rivals for the title. Although Man City would still have that game in hand.
