Manchester United Preview – Top four beckons for in-form Red Devils?

The momentum in the race for Champions League qualification is undoubtedly with Manchester United (5th – W14 D10 L8). Tuesday’s scintillating display at The Amex, cruising to a 3-0 scoreline after a brace from winter recruit Bruno Fernandes, was their second victory from three league games since the restart and stretched their unbeaten run in the competition to eight (W5 D3) – the longest current such run in the English top-flight.

Both Leicester and Chelsea, in third and fourth respectively, are anxiously looking over their shoulders, and rightly so. The Red Devils have picked up where they left off before the pandemic and can consider themselves unfortunate not have taken the full quota of points since the resumption, as Solskjaer’s men were the better team first time out in a 1-1 draw in Tottenham before emphatic 3-0 victories over Sheffield United and Brighton.

At Old Trafford, United have won three Premier League games in a row against Watford (3-0), Man City (2-0) and Sheff Utd. Meanwhile Burnley, in a shock 2-0 win in January, remain the last visiting side to win there since the end of August 2019. Since Fernandes’ arrival in January, though, The Red Devils have been in red hot form, as the midfielder’s relationship out on the pitch with Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial continues to blossom.

Bournemouth Preview – These are bleak times for the South Coast club?

Not many teams would relish a trip to Old Trafford at this precise moment. So imagine how a disconsolate Bournemouth (19th – W7 D6 L19) side, without a league win since the start of February having lost six of their last seven matches, must be feeling ahead of tackling the division’s most in-form outfit. Eddie Howe’s men are in a proper rut, and it could be set to get a great deal worse before it gets better.

A new low for what was already a miserable season? After the drubbing endured at home to Newcastle on Wednesday, losing 4-1 to a side who are comfortable in mid-table and among the least prolific outfits in this season’s top-flight, it is difficult viewing the latest debacle any other way. That a third straight defeat since the restart, after losing rather meekly to Crystal Palace (0-2) and Wolves (1-0).

Thankfully, the teams around them near the bottom of the table aren’t faring any better. Despite taking a point from the last 24 available, The Cherries are still in touching distance of safety and would even climb out of the relegation zone with a shock victory at The Theatre of Dreams. Although that would require them winning for just the fourth occasion away from home this season (W3 D1 L12).

Manchester United Vs Bournemouth Betting Advice

Two teams heading in completely opposite directions. Manchester United are hunting down a top-four finish and look a very good bet to do so, after stringing together the top-flight’s longest current unbeaten run (W5 D3). Since the restart, Solskjaer’s side have taken seven of nine points and scored as many goals. Two more than Bournemouth managed across their current eight-game winless run (D1 L6). All rather ominous.

Manchester United Vs Bournemouth – Key Facts

  • No team is enjoying a longer run in the Premier League without losing than Manchester United (W5 D3), who haven’t lost since a 2-0 home reverse with Burnley on 22 January.
  • Only Aston Villa are enduring a longer wait without a top-flight victory than Bournemouth (7 games: D1 L6).
  • Bournemouth‘s 1-0 victory at Vitality Stadium in November was only their second win in nine Premier League meetings (W2 D1 L6) with Manchester United.

Not only do the statistics point towards a comfortable home victory, but recent performances from a resurgent Manchester United also hint at a big win incoming. Especially as Bournemouth, who shipped four goals at home to a usually blunt Newcastle earlier in the week, are a team devoid of confidence. Man Utd were three goals better in recent wins against Sheffield United and Brighton, teams most would view as a considerable upgrade on Saturday’s opposition.
