Manchester United Preview – Ole to finally unleash Pogba?

That man again coming up trumps for Manchester United (5th – W12 D10 L8), who departed North London with a share of the points on Friday – and deservedly so after they were the superior side over the 90 minutes – courtesy of Bruno Fernandes striking home his third goal in his last four league appearances in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham. A performance full of attacking enterprise and promise, dominating according to xG (TOT 0.47 – 1.69 MAN).

It wasn’t until Paul Pogba’s introduction on the hour mark, however, that United really took a firm hold on proceedings. The Frenchman orchestrating the comeback not only with his assist for the goal (he was fouled for the penalty Fernandes converted) but his eye for a key pass and desire to drive this side up the pitch. The temptation now for Solskjaer must be to start Pogba from the start for this.

Drawing with Tottenham extended United’s unbeaten league run to six (W3 D3), as they continue to hunt down Chelsea in fourth. At Old Trafford, meanwhile, it is one loss in thirteen Premier League games (W7 D5 L1), emphatically winning the last two against Watford (3-0) and Man City (2-0), and only two goals conceded – both coming in the shock 2-0 loss to Burnley – across their last five matches at The Theatre of Dreams.

Sheffield United Preview – Will the fairytale have its happy ending?

The Blades have struggled more than most since the Premier League resumption, playing one game more than most teams but accruing only one point whilst scoring no goals following their goalless draw with Aston Villa and a 3-0 loss to Newcastle. Both fixtures were away from home meaning a third successive away outing for Chris Wilder’s side. Hardly ideal, especially with it being against an improving Man Utd.

What this fixture does do, however, is allow Sheffield United (7th – W11 D11 L7) to potentially close the gap on their rivals in the hotly-contested race for European places. A race Wilder was keen to stress couldn’t be any further from his mind or that of his players when speaking after Sunday’s frustrating defeat at St James’ Park. A second successive flat performance from an attacking sense, creating less than 0.7 xG in both games since the restart.

John Egan’s red card last time out, with the scoreline still locked level at 0-0, clearly didn’t help matters and now leaves him suspended for this. The Blades needn’t be too downhearted, though: they were previously unbeaten in five league games (W3 D2) prior to facing Newcastle. However, on the road it is now one win in six (W1 D2 L3), and just two goals scored across those same fixtures.

Manchester United Vs Sheffield United Betting Advice

Sheffield United have lost their way since the Premier League returned, with a draw and a defeat from their two games so far, but are not suddenly a bad side. They remain among the strongest defensively in the entire division – only Liverpool conceding fewer this season – and have shown how capable they are on their travels by earning results away to Arsenal (1-1), Chelsea (2-2), Everton (0-2), Tottenham (1-1) and Wolves (1-1).

Manchester United Vs Sheffield United – Key Facts

  • As the home side Manchester United have been beaten once in their last thirteen Premier League games (W7 D5 L1).
  • Sheffield United have won one of their last six Premier League away games (W1 D2 L3), though have lost just three times on the road all season.
  • Six goals were evenly shared when these teams went at it at Bramall Lane in November, with both sides failing to win despite leading at some stage.

Unbeaten in their last six league games, Manchester United deserve to be favourites for this, especially on account of them being at home, but the current odds are not in line with two teams separated by just two points in the table. Solskjaer’s side is strong with regards to personnel and appear to be improving with every game, but are not with flaws. Sheffield United or Draw looks interesting at 37/20 (Unibet).
