Manchester United vs Aston Villa Live Stats & Betting Odds

Manchester United Prediction – Can Man Utd move up table again?

A 2-1 shock defeat away at bottom club, Astana, in Group L of the Europa League during the week stunned Manchester United but they still finished top of the group and will progress onto the knockout stage of the competition, with thoughts now turning to the business of moving up the table in the Premier League.

United’s ordinary results away from home in this season’s top flight continued last weekend though with a 3-3 draw away at newcomers, Sheffield United, with Manchester United blowing another seemingly certain three points as they conceded a late equaliser at Bramall Lane.

The Red Devils now return to Old Trafford where they’ve suffered just 1 defeat so far this term amidst a record of 3-2-1 11/5 and it looks like United will need to rely on results on home turf to get them out of their current predicament which has placed them in a disappointing mid-table position.

Despite bring a 4-match unbeaten run into Sunday’s proceedings which includes recent wins against Leicester City and Brighton, the hosts haven’t been thoroughly convincing even when they’ve won; indeed, just 2 of their last 15 matches at home have seen United win by 2 or more goals.

Aston Villa Prediction – Can Aston Villa keep things close?

The visitors will have received a massive boost ahead of this trip to Old Trafford following their 2-0 home win against Newcastle United last weekend, and Villa will be hoping that they can catch Manchester United cold this Sunday afternoon after their hosts suffered a shock defeat in the Europa League in midweek.

Prior to the victory over Newcastle United, Aston Villa had suffered a 3-match losing streak which included defeats to Manchester City 3-0 and 2-1 losses to Liverpool and west midlands rivals, Wolves respectively, while results away from home have been poor.

An away record of 1-0-5 9/13 doesn’t inspire much confidence in the visitors winning this one, but a deeper look at Villa’s results on the road this season suggests they could at least avoid a heavy loss here – the visitors have lost just 2 of their 6 away matches by a 2-goal margin which were at Tottenham and Manchester City, but they could hold their own against an off-colour Manchester United outfit here.

Key-Facts – Manchester United vs Aston Villa

  • Manchester United are unbeaten in their last 4 matches at Old Trafford
  • United have won by 2+ goals in just 2 of their last 15 matches at home in the EPL
  • Aston Villa have lost just 2 of their 6 away matches by a 2-goal margin

Betting Tips Verdict

Manchester United look likely to grab the spoils here but they could be pushed all the way by Villa in this one.
