Neither Manchester United or Leicester City have impressed consistently enough this season but the hosts are still very much in the top four conversation and have to target three points here.

Manchester United – Can United stay in the hunt for Champions League qualification?

Having finished second last season, it’s fair to say that Manchester United’s hopes and expectations have not been met this campaign. A title challenge may have been beyond them considering the quality that rivals Manchester City and Liverpool possess, but they would have hoped to be a lot closer than they are and absolutely in control of a top four spot – something they have achieved in each of the last two seasons.

United are currently in sixth place – four points behind Arsenal who occupy fourth but having played two games more. With Spurs also above them and having a game in hand it is a big task they have to be playing Champions League football next season.

The appointment of Ralf Rangnick has not had the impact that the board hoped it would and it’s unlikely the German will be in place come the start of the new season. With defeat to Atletico Madrid in their last game ending European hopes it remains to be seen how a group of players who have under performed for the most part react with even less to play for now.
Their recent run at home in the league has seen them unbeaten in five and winning six of their last nine at Old Trafford.

Leicester City Preview – Will Foxes continue their better recent run ahead of a European quarter-final?

Leicester City had hopes of pushing for a top four place of their own after narrow misses in the last two seasons. However, heading into the first game in April and those ambitions are long gone. Brendan Rodgers men have been nowhere near the levels of the last couple of years, languishing in 10th place.

Their inconsistencies are highlighted by the fact their current run of three wins in four league games is the best of the campaign. Although Rodgers will be wanting as high a league finish as possible he is already prioritising the Europa Conference League – Leicester have PSV in the quarter-finals with the first leg on Thursday.

Leicester’s hopes of a positive end to the season has not been helped by another injury to Jamie Vardy. Such an influential player for them not just in terms of his goals, he will be missing for this game and it is uncertain when he will return to the starting eleven.

The biggest issues for Leicester this season has been at the other end, though. They have the seventh worst defensive record in the Premier League, conceding 46 goals, and have kept just one clean sheet in their last 20 away games.

Manchester United vs Leicester City Betting Advice

United have to target this game as a must win if they are to climb into that top four come the end of the season. With nine games left to play, each one becomes more precious and the margin for error smaller. Leicester appear to be a decent opponent for them considering their priorities lie elsewhere and own inconsistencies are there for all to see.

However, the Foxes are going in search of a fourth straight win in this fixture – winning the last meeting between the two, 4-2.

Key Facts –  Manchester United vs Leicester City Betting Tip

  • Manchester United are unbeaten in their last five league games at Old Trafford (three wins, two draws)
  • Leicester have won three of their last four in the Premier League which is their best run of the season
  • The Foxes are looking for a fourth straight victory over United (two in the league, one in FA Cup

I couldn’t back Manchester United with any confidence despite them having everything in their favour. Instead, both teams to score is my selection. The two teams have conceded 86 goals between them in the league so far. With 10 of Leicester’s 13 away games have had both teams finding the net.
