Manchester United Prediction – Can Manchester Utd bounce back?

Boxing Day’s hosts in the evening kick-off, Manchester United, were unable to extend their unbeaten run to 7 matches on the weekend when they suffered a surprising 2-0 defeat away at bottom club, Watford, at Vicarage Road, so no doubt the hosts will be keen to bounce back here.

A recent promising run of 6 matches without defeat seemed to be sending United back up towards the top five of the Premier League following wins against Brighton, Tottenham and most satisfying of all, a local derby 2-1 win away at Manchester City.

The Red Devils also picked up valuable points in draws with Sheffield United, Aston Villa and Everton although these may be considered poor results by critics that compare this current United side against that of the side under Ferguson’s reign in his pomp.

United’s form at Old Trafford though continues to be solid enough as the hosts possess an overall home record of 4-4-1 16/9, but only 2 of their 9 matches at home so far have seen United win by 2+goals (4-0 v Chelsea and 3-1 v Brighton) to date.

Newcastle United Prediction – Can Newcastle do the ‘double’ over United?

A 1-0 home win against Crystal Palace last weekend was enough to give Newcastle United an important three points in what was a welcome ‘bounce-back’ win over The Eagles following their previous disappointing display at Burnley where The Magpies lost 1-0.

It’s now just 1 defeat out of the last 5 matches for Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United outfit who have picked up recent important wins against Sheffield United (2-0 away), Southampton (2-1 at home) and the aforementioned victory over Crystal Palace.

After a slow and shaky start to Bruce’s reign at St James’ Park, Newcastle’s recent improved run of results has helped lift the visitors up into 9th place on the Premier League ladder and another three points at Old Trafford could see them move into 6th spot.

However, an away record of 3-0-6 8/17 doesn’t fill me with much confidence in them winning this clash, but following their 5-0 mauling at Leicester City, The Magpies have lost by 2 goals or more just once in their last 5 away matches.

Key-Facts – Manchester United vs Newcastle United

  • Manchester Utd have won by 2+ goals in just 2 of their 9 home matches
  • Newcastle United have lost just 1 of their last 5 matches overall in the EPL
  • Newcastle United beat Manchester Utd 1-0 in the last meeting back in October

Betting Tips Verdict

Manchester United’s frustrating season continues while an improved Newcastle United outfit may make life difficult for the hosts here.
