A 3-1 home win against Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday not only handed Manchester United another welcome three points but it also sent out a statement of intent from the Red Devils to the rest of the league as Arsenal had previously enjoyed a 100% winning start to this new top flight campaign.
United now turn their attentions to the European front where they begin their Europa League campaign against Spanish visitors, Real Sociedad on Matchday 1 in Group E which also consists of Moldovan club, Sheriff, along with Cypriot outfit, Omonia Nicosia, and ten Hag’s side must be eyeing off a place in the knockout rounds of the competition.
Although Manchester United made a disappointing start to the new season following losses to Brighton and Brentford, the latter being particularly disastrous with a 4-0 loss away, Manchester United have seemingly hit their straps as they’ve racked up four wins on the trot since.

Real Sociedad look to have a tough opening fixture ahead of them on Matchday 1 as they travel to Old Trafford to face an ever-improving Manchester United outfit under Dutch manager ten Hag, while the Spanish visitors have made a mixed start to their domestic La Liga campaign after the opening four games.
Wins against Cadiz and Elche were both away from home but they’ve been offset by a heavy 4-1 loss at home to Barcelona along with a 1-1 draw at home with Atletico Madrid last time out in the Spanish top flight, so it looks as though the visitors have yet to really click into gear which may pose them some problems against an in-form United side.
On the Europa League front, Real Sociedad have managed to register just two wins out of their last 13 ties overall which were gained over Sturm Graz and PSV but also includes a heavy 4-0 defeat at home to Manchester United in last season’s Europa League campaign as well.
In addition, Real Sociedad have won just one of their last seven outings on the road at Europa League level and although they’ve suffered just the one defeat (at Monaco), the best that the visitors can appear to hope for here on Thursday night is a draw, which has been the most prevalent result for Real Sociedad, drawing five of these last seven away games.
The visitors also have a few injury concerns with Le Normand rated as very doubtful for this trip, while Oyarzabal, Merquelanz and Fernandez have all been ruled out.
