We are looking at one of the big names in the field at the 2021 World Darts Championship and that is Nathan Aspinall.

The sixth seed came through a potential banana skin fixture against a former BDO World Champion in the last round.

“The Asp” now gets a shot against a seeded player in the form of Vincent van der Voort in a fascinating clash.

Nathan Aspinall Preview – The Asp favourite for a fourth-round berth

Having already seen some big names fall in the second round, Nathan Aspinall will be pleased with his work.

As a seeded player, he entered the tournament in the second round.

It was thrown into a tricky match against Scott Waites, a former BDO World Champion.

Aspinall went through the match with a 3-2 win. That was a tighter result than was really expected and he came off second-best in the three-dart average.

But he took his chances well and he goes into this third-round match at the Ally Pally as the strong 4/11 odds-on favourite* (odds recorded 0512 GMT Thursday, 24th December).

Aspinall has been to the semi-final of the World Championships on both of his previous visits in 2019 and 2020.

So he certainly has the big tournament form.

2020 has been another good year for him as he continues to be one of the rising forces in the game.

Aspinall reached the semi-finals of the Masters and the final of the Premier League Darts.

Our betting prediction:
Aspinall 4-1 Correct Score
10/3

Aspinall went deep at the Grand Slam of Darts back in November before suffering an early exit at the Player Championship Finals on a follow-up.

There is some history here between Aspinall and Van der Voort that we can look at for darts betting.

Aspinall leads the head to head 5-2 from their seven previous meetings.

It is a three-match winning streak that “The Asp” is on against the Dutchman inclduing this year’s meeting in March at the Players Championship Barnsley.

Vincent van der Voort Preview – Can Van Der Voort cause an upset?

There have been plenty of upsets already in his tournament for Van der Voort to take confidence from.

He is a seeded player as well (27th) so he started his campaign in the second round

There was a 3-2 win for him there against fellow Dutchman Ron Meulenkamp. A veteran of the sport Van Der Voort took a 95 three-dart average on his way to the win.

The best efforts that “The Dutch Destroyer” has had at the PDC World CDarts Championship was quarter-final finishes in 2011 and 2015.

He is a big 11/5 underdog to take this season’s journey a step further by taking out Aspinall* (odds recorded 0512 GMT Thursday, 24th December).

That does look to be a bit of a stretch for the 45-year-old as he has struggled in big events this year.

The best finish that he has put together all season was a quarter-final at the World Matchplay

Before arriving at the Alexandra Palace for this event, Van der Voort had lost four of six matches in all competitions.

Vincent van der Voort is capable of producing an upset on his day. In Players Championship events.

But for this one, we just can’t see him getting there and we think that he quietly bows out without threatening too much.

An Aspinall 4-1 correct score is a 10/3 darts betting option* (odds recorded 0512 GMT Thursday, 24th December).

At the end of the day, the head to head record that he has against Aspinall just doesn’t stand up at all.

Nathan Aspinall vs Vincent van der Voort Betting Advice

Van der Voort has barely laid a glove on Aspinall in their last two meetings and we would expect that to go the same way here.

For an opening selection in darts betting we would go for the Aspinall 4-1 correct score at 10/3* (odds recorded 0512 GMT Thursday, 24th December).

Aspinall has proven in the last two years just how comfortable he is on this stage.

Key Facts – Nathan Aspinall vs Vincent van der Voort Betting Tip

  • Nathan Aspinall has reached the semis on both previous World Championship entries
  • Nathan Aspinall hold a W5 L2 record against Van der Voort
  • Vincent van der Voort has lost his last three against Aspinall

We wouldn’t let his deciding set victory in his opening match bother us at all. He was up against one of the trickier players there.

But Aspinall finished well and now with his eye-in at the oche at the Ally Pally, we expect him to race through this one.

Van der Voort is just not the kind of force in the game that can mount big consistent pressure on “The Asp”.
