The Premier League throws up some interesting encounters this weekend, and my next pick features one of these as Newcastle United take on Watford with the hosts in desperate need of a win – read on for the betting tips…
It’s not only the club that needs all three points at St James’ Park but also Newcastle manager, Rafa Benitez as he could find himself out on his ear if The Magpies lose a sixth straight home match here against Watford.
The hosts have made an appalling start to the new season, and with previous managers of other clubs losing their job for a lot less, Benitez is fortunate to still have a job as he prepares his side for this massive match. Newcastle have yet to win a single match this season in the top flight and have gained just three points thanks to draws with Cardiff City, Crystal Palace and Southampton – all ending in dour and dull 0-0 draws.
To make matters worse, The Magpies’ home record stands at a wretched 0-0-5 3/9 and the natives are getting very restless. Another defeat here could be the end of Benitez’s reign.
Onto Watford, and despite recent back-to-back defeats to Arsenal and Bournemouth, The Hornets have bounced back in style under manager, Javi Gracia, as the visitors have recorded back-to-back wins of their own against Wolves and Huddersfield Town.
Wolves had been gaining the early plaudits for their performances and results upon their return to the top flight, but Watford registered a convincing 2-0 win at Molineux, and they’ve also recorded some decent results away from home so far this term as well.
An earlier win at Burnley was followed up with a point at Fulham before their victory against Wolves, and with momentum firmly behind Watford, my betting tips advise backing the visitors with the handicap.
