The Cowboys have slumped to a three-match losing streak in the Premiership. So they are up against it at the moment and need to find a way to get a big lift.

But the Knights have been holding themselves well in this campaign and will have their tails up after beating the Broncos last weekend heavily.

The two traded home wins last season. Who secures the points in this one?

North Queensland Cowboys Preview – Can the Cowboys buck their slump?

Things have gotten tough for the North Queensland Cowboys. They suffered a 20-36 loss against the Wests Tigers last weekend, their third straight defeat in the Premiership.

Troublingly, the Cowboys have conceded at least 26 points in each of their last three as well. That leaves the Cowboys on a W2 L4 record for the campaign so far.

One positive for them is that they have been scoring very well. They are the current third-highest scorers in the league at the moment with a tally of 143.

But then you look at their defence which has shipped a tally of 149 points in matches. That leaves them with a -6 points difference this season and they are just leaking points currently.

The two wins that the Cowboys have managed to take this season were against the Titans and the Bulldogs, the current bottom two in the league.

So they haven’t lived with the better teams in the ladder.

But they did collect a narrow 20-18 home win over the Knights last season. That had actually completed a four match winning streak against the Knights.

But then came a big crash for them in the second meeting of last season when they were smashed 6-42 by the Knights.

The Queensland Cowboys are big underdogs at 2/1 with Bet365 to win this outright* (betting odds taken 03:50 GMT on Wednesday 25th June 2020).

Newcastle Knights Preview – Can the Knights build on last weekend’s win?

There was a good 27-6 win for the Knights last weekend over the Brisbane Broncos. That left the Newcastle Knights in second place in the ladder.

They look the real deal at the moment and look likely to collect another win in this fixture. They have tallied 149 points this season in matches, second only to that tally of the Roosters.

It is a W4 D1 L1 record that Newcastle have recorded so far. This will be their first visit to the Queensland Country Bank Stadium. The edge here for them could be in defence.

Newcastle Knights have conceded 14 points per game on average this season. Their opponents on the weekend, the Cowboys have averaged 24 points per game against them.

In the tryscorer markets it could be worth having a peek at Lachlan Fitzgibbon who has scored three tries in his three career appearances against the Cowboys.

North Queensland Cowboys vs Newcastle Knights Betting Advice

The Knights are running hot this season and should have too much class and power for North Queensland. The forward pack of the Knights can take an early grip on the game and run the show.

We like the look of pushing the Newcastle Knights to a -8 handicap for 10/11* (betting odds taken 03:50 GMT on Wednesday 25th June 2020).

Key Facts – North Queensland Cowboys vs Newcastle Knights Betting Tip

  • North Queensland Cowboys have won 4 of the last 5 against the Knights
  • North Queensland Cowboys are on a 3 match losing streak
  • Newcastle Knights are second in the ladder currently

The Cowboys are depleted with injuries at the moment and last weekend they conceded at a total of 34 points in the first half of their game against the Wests Tigers.

Even though they get back home for the first time in a fortnight, they are nowhere near their strongest line-up at the moment. The Knights aren’t likely to let this shot at points pass them by.
