Nottingham Forest Preview – Can Tricky Trees produce three points?

After the euphoria of gaining a long-awaited promotion back up into the Premier League from the Championship at the end of last season and recording an early season 1-0 home win against fellow strugglers, West Ham, Friday night’s hosts, Nottingham Forest, are now experiencing the harsh realities of the English top flight as they head into this upcoming clash looking to avoid a fourth defeat on the trot.

Forest fans will, still be firmly behind Welsh manager, Steve Cooper, and his boys but three recent defeats on the trot have sent early worrying signs to the east midlands outfit following losses against Tottenham 2-0, Manchester City 6-0 and a disappointing 3-2 loss at home to Bournemouth, whom Forest would have fancied their chances of picking up all three points against.

Indeed, the Tricky Trees led Bournemouth by a seemingly comfortable 2-0 margin but The Cherries staged something of a highly unlikely comeback, scoring three second half goals to break Forest’s hearts and condemn Cooper’s side to a third loss on the trot, leaving the hosts in the relegation zone, sitting second from bottom in the table.

It’s been a period of 23 years since Nottingham Forest last found themselves in the Premier League so there’s little overall form from which to glean but Forest know their visitors, Fulham, well from their former Championship days with the visitors winning three of their last four visits to the City Ground.

Cooper is set to be without midfielder Orel Mangala (muscle injury) along with defensive duo Moussa Niakhate (thigh injury) and Omar Richards (calf injury).

Nottingham Forest have failed to beat Fulham at home in each of the previous four meetings at the City Ground, losing their last three encounters on the trot to The Cottagers.

Fulham Preview – Can The Cottagers extend upper hand over Forest?

Fulham have fared slightly better than their Friday’s hosts, Nottingham Forest, as The Cottagers sit in the relative comfort of a mid-table position in the Premier League standings in 10th spot having gained two wins, two draws and losing twice in their opening six games of this new top flight season.

Although Fulham failed to win their opening two games upon their return to the big time, the London club also avoided defeat and picked up useful points in draws with Liverpool 2-2 and Wolves 0-0 which saw the visitors make a more solid start to this new campaign than previous attempts.

Wins against Brentford and Brighton have since followed which were both registered on home soil at Craven Cottage, while defeats to north London clubs, Arsenal and Tottenham were kind of expected despite their best efforts to avoid what seemed inevitable losses.

One point from the first possible nine on offer away from home for Fulham should see a fully-focused and determined Cottagers outfit at the City Ground on Friday night where they’ve held the upper hand in previous exchanges, winning their last three visits on the trot.

Defender Antonee Robinson (ankle injury) along with midfielders Harry Wilson and Manor Solomon (knee injuries) will mist this trip to the east midlands.

Key Facts – Nottingham Forest v Fulham Tip

  • Nottingham Forest have failed to win any of their last 4 games (losing last 3 on trot)
  • Fulham have picked up 2 wins to date this season and sit in 10th place
  • Fulham have won 3 of their last 4 visits to Nottingham Forest

Both Nottingham Forest and Fulham are still finding their feet back in the Premier League and have found league wins tough to come by, especially the hosts as they have been handed three defeats on the trot while a Mitrovic-fuelled Fulham outfit perhaps look to hold a slight edge in terms of confidence in recent times, and the visitors could sneak a narrow win at the City Ground again on Friday night.
