Novak Djokovic has fought his way through to the ATP Rome final, which is being played on Monday.

The Serbian was the pre-tournament front runner and with Rafa Nadal falling in the quarters, the path to the title has been clear for him.

He will face Argentinean Denis Schwartzman in the final, who has reached an ATP Masters 1000 Final for the first time.

Novak Djokovic Preview – Djokovic favourite for another title

Novak Djokovic is the red-hot favourite for the final of Rome on Monday, running at heavy odds-on at 1/6 odds* (odds taken 23:12 GMT on Sunday, 20th September).

It has been plain sailing for Novak Djokovic at the ATP Rome tournament this week. He has dropped just the one set on his path to the final.

That happened in the quarter-finals against Dominik Keopfer when the German took the second set off of the top seed.

Other than that, he hasn’t been troubled at all and moved through to the final with a routine win over Norway’s Casper Ruud.

He fought off a couple of set points in the opener there before taking it and collected a warning for foul language along the way.

This is the 52nd ATP Masters 1000 Final of Djokovic’s career, which is a record, surpassing Rafa Nadal’s record of 51.

Djokovic has met Diego Schwartzman four times before in his career and, little surprise, Djokovic has won all four of them.

They met this year when they clashed in the round of sixteen at the Australian Open and it was a simple, straightforward straight-sets win for the Serbian.

Interestingly, they did meet last year on the clay in Rome at the semi-final stage. Djokovic took a 2-1 set win there having dropped the second on a tie-breaker.

Djokovic was a little sluggish at the start of his semi final match and Djokovic 2-1 in Set Betting for the final is at 10/3* (odds taken 23:12 GMT on Sunday, 20th September).

Diego Schwartzman Preview – Schwartzman reaches a first Masters final

This is the first final of an ATP Masters 1000 event for Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman after an epic semi final match.

He met Canadian’s Denis Shapovalov in the final four and it was a gruelling three-hour and 15 minute event as well.

The tie was settled on a tie-breaker in the final set and after that epic effort, Schwartzman is 4/1 to take the title on Monday* (odds taken 23:12 GMT on Sunday, 20th September).

He has a big reason to be confident as he looks for his first victory over Novak Djokovic.

That’s because in the quarter finals he caused a massive shock in dumping Rafael Nadal out of the event.

Schwarzman called that his best match effort and were he to win the final, he would reach a top-ten ranking for the first time ever.

So this has been no easy path to the final for the Argentine at all and he did look a beaten man early in the final set of his semi-final.

Diego Schwartzman has burst out of nowhere to put this run together, although he is a better player on clay than any other surface.

He lost in the second round of the Western & Southern Open, and lost in the first round of the US Open to Britain’s Cameron Norrie.

More likely than not he is going to be on the back foot for most of Monday’s action.

Novak Djokovic vs Diego Schwartzman Betting Advice

Novak Djokovic will break another record if he gets a win on Monday. He will become the most successful player in terms of ATP Masters 1000 titles ahead of Rafa Nadal.

Last month he got one at the Western & Southern Open.

Djokovic is only at a 4-5 record from his previous visits to the Rome final, so it is not the greatest of strike rates for him.

He has actually lost the last three championship matches at the event.

Key Facts – Novak Djokovic vs Diego Schwartzman Betting Tip

  • Novak Djokovic is 4-0 against Schwartzman
  • Novak Djokovic has dropped just one set on his way to the final
  • Diego Schwartzman is in the final of an ATP Masters 1000 event for the first time

But he has to be backed to get the win on the board here and looking around for a little bit of value a Djokovic -4.5 handicap is at 4/6 odds* (odds taken 23:12 GMT on Sunday, 20th September).

Schwartzman has come through a lot of big challenges in the last three rounds, dropping sets against Shapovalov and against Hubert Hurkacz in the third round.

His win over Nadal was spectacular, but seeing him follow up with a win against Djokovic after such a long semi final against Shapovalov, does not look to be on the cards against a man he has never beaten before.
