As expected, Novak Djokovic won his opening match at the tournament, cruising past Damir Duzmhur in straight sets.

It was an easy 6-1 6-4 6-1 win that the Serbian took which is a bit of an ominous sign for his next opponent Edmund.

Last week at the Western & Southern Open Novak Djokovic was back among the titles.

Well, this is a great opportunity for Kyle Edmund to showcase himself at the US Open.

This will actually be the sixth meeting between the two players and Edmund is W1 L5 against the Serbian.

The shock result in that head to head sequence happened at the ATP Masters 1000 Madrid event in 2019, the Brit winning over three sets.

Later that year Edmund did take a set off Djokovic when they met at Wimbledon, the letter winner 3-1.

Kyle Edmund has improved on his last two appearances at the US Open by reaching the second round this year.

Edmund was up against Alexander Bublik on the opening day of action at the US Open 2020 and took a 3-1 win after dropping the first set.
