Nurnberg Preview – Can Nurnberg end a dreadful run and make it a first win in 10 league games?

In a season that started promisingly for Nurnberg in their attempt to get return to the Bundesliga at the first time of asking is turning into a nightmare. Head Coach Jens Keller was brought in last month in an attempt to turn the club’s fortunes around but it’s been more of the same struggle. Nurnberg come into Friday’s game – the last match before the winter break – without a victory in nine games. They have lost five of those and been dealt a few heavy defeats along the way. They looked set for their first victory since the end of September last week when winning 2-0 with just over 10 minutes to go. However, as is so often the case when struggling for form and confidence, they conceded two late goals and had to make do with a point at home to Holstein Kiel.

The lack of wins (just three in 17 matches) is very concerning and their defensive record is equally so. The 34 goals they have conceded is the second most in the league and something they have to rectify as they bid to move away from danger. Scoring goals is not much of a problem as their tally of 24 confirms but as proven last weekend, team down at the bottom struggle because of their inability to keep goals out.

Dynamo Dresden Preview – Will Dresden finally win win on their travels and potentially move off bottom spot?

Dynamo Dresden never came into this season with the same sort of expectation as their opponents on Friday but they would have been hoping for much better for themselves. The club are rock bottom of 2.Bundesliga and could well go into the winter break cast adrift if they fail to pick up anything from this one. That could well be the case, too, considering it’s been away from home where their struggles have been emphasised. Dresden are winless from eight away games in this league so far, picking up just two points from a possible 24. Unsurprisingly, no team has conceded more goals on their travels with 20 shipped in those eight games.

Like their opponents tomorrow, Dresden are under the care of a new coach. Markus Kauczinski took charge earlier this month but got off to a poor start as his team went down 3-0 away to Osnabruck. With this game their last until the end of January a similar sort of result will ensure it’s an extremely long winter break for all at the club. Should they get a result then it’s likely Moussa Kone or Alexander Jeremejeff will have some involvement. The strike duo have combined for 10 of Dresden’s 17 league goals.

  • It was a narrow 1-0 win for Nurnberg when the teams met on the opening day of the season back in July

Nurnberg vs Dynamo Dresden Betting Advice

It may just be halfway in the league campaign but this is already shaping up to be the proverbial relegation six- pointer. Just three points separate the two clubs meaning tomorrow’s match will have a bearing on who is bottom of the table going into the winter break. That is bound to have an influence on how this game is played and a potentially significant psychological effect on their respective seasons.

Nurnberg were 1-0 winners when the teams met on the opening day of the season in July. That remains just one of four clean sheets for the hosts and you feel they need to find more of them if they are to move away from danger. It’s often foolish to back teams on the basis of how poor the opposition are but that’s my angle in this one. Dresden are terrible away from home and it could be that Nurnberg are just less bad on this occasion. The hosts were close last time out and they can just about edge this to get their first three points since September.
