This is a big third round clash at the Australian Open 2021. So far Naomi Osaka has been in ruthless form at the event.

Will she keep her top from rolling along at Melbourne Park as she faces the heavy-hitting Ons Jabeur?

The Tunisian player is no stranger to pulling off upsets after running to the quarter-finals at last year’s Grand Slam.

Ons Jabeur Preview – Can Jabeur topple Osaka?

It was twelve months ago at the 2020 Australian Open that Ons Jabeur really stopped into the limelight.

That was with a terrific run to the quarter-finals, on what was just her fourth appearance in the main draw.

She hadn’t been past the first round in any of her previous three.

Jabeur then went on to reach the fourth round at the French Open and the third round at the US Open last year, huge steps forwards in her career.

She is taking on the 2019 Australian Open champion here though and is a big 4/1 underdogs in the tennis betting match outright* (odds taken 2000 GMT, Wednesday 10th February).

Jabeur was taken to three sets in her opening match of this campaign against Andrea Petkovic.

But then she responded magnificently to power past Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in the second round, not an easy opponent.

Heading into the Australian Open, January held a W3 L2 record from singles in 2021.

Pretty much everyone in this draw has to deal with trying to find a bit of form and momentum.

So it’s a little tough at this point to predict how Jabeur is going to stand up to facing one of the best in the game.

In the tennis betting Game Handicap market, a Jabeur +3.5 option is at 9/4* (odds taken 2000 GMT, Wednesday 10th February).

This will be the first meeting between Jabeur and Osaka.

Naomi Osaka Preview – Osaka shows top form

Naomi Osaka has hit the ground running at the Australian Open so far with a couple of quick-fire wins under her belt.

She opened with a straight-sets win over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, dropping just three games.

Then she followed up with a straight-sets victory over Carolina Garcia, letting just five games slide.

So Osaka has been on her game and she is the red hot 1/4 odds-on favourite in the match outright for tennis betting in this one* (odds taken 2000 GMT, Wednesday 10th February).

It’s hard to refute that given what she has shown before.

But this is going to be a tricky match, more likely than not because Jabeur grinds away so well and plays some high-risk shots.

The only other tennis that Naomi Osaka has had this year was at the Gippsland Trophy when he ran to the semi-finals before retiring.

Aside from having dropped the first set in her third-round match against Britain’s Katie Boulter, Osaka had been totally untroubled in that tournament.

Naomi Osaka has three Grand Slam titles to her name. Sandwiched between two US Open titles was her 2019 Australian Open crown.

She was stunned in the third round of her title defence last year as young American star Cori Gauff got the better of her.

But there have been ominous signs for the rest of the field over the form of Osaka so far.

This may not be all plain sailing for her. But we expect the world number three to come out on top.

Naomi Osaka 2-0 set betting option is at 1/2* (odds taken 2000 GMT, Wednesday 10th February)

Ons Jabeur vs Naomi Osaka Betting Advice

We just would like to have seen a little more early season form from Ons Jabeur going into this one.

She’s capable on her day of getting under the skin of opponents, but there’s been little to show so far in 2021 that she will knock over Osaka.

In this first meeting between the players, we are going with the Osaka 2-0 set betting option at 1/2* (odds taken 2000 GMT, Wednesday 10th February).

Key Facts – Ons Jabeur vs Naomi Osaka Betting Tip

  • Ons Jabeur reached the quarter finals at the 2020 Australian Open
  • Ons Jabeur is ranked 30th in the world, Osaka 3rd
  • Naomi Osaka has won a Grand Slam in each of the last three seasons

We can’t see a way into the match for Jabeur really and if that first set goes against her, then that will probably be curtains.

Under 19.5 games total is at a quote of even money and worth putting up for consideration in tennis betting* (odds taken 2000 GMT, Wednesday 10th February).

Osaka should temper any early match enthusiasm by her Tunisian opponent.
