The situation is now critical for Lazio and their hopes of qualifying for the knockout phase. Anything other than three points at home to Cluj on Thursday and it will be a disappointing group stage exit for the Italians.

Osnabruck Preview – Can Osnabruck extend their unbeaten run to six games and take points off the leaders?

This is the first time since 2010/11 that Osnbruck are competing in the second tier of German football. Promotion was achieved following winning the 3.Liga last season and they are equipping themselves relatively well at this higher level. They come into Friday’s game against the joint league leader unbeaten in their last five games – four of which have been draws. It was always likely that Osnabruck were going to be aiming to stay in the league rather than any loftier ambitions and they are sitting in 11th spot on 17 points. Currently, that’s three clear of the relegation playoff spot and a further two ahead of the automatic relegation positions. Should they end their campaign there it would have to be seen as a success.

The only slight concern for coach Daniel Thioune is that it’s now only one win in 10 league games. There’s definitely something to be said for their resoluteness and ability to pick up points on a regular basis but he will be looking for his team to turn a couple of these draws into victories. That may be easier said than done against the current leaders.

Hamburg SV Preview – Will Hamburg take all three points and record their first away win in the league since August?

There’s no denying how disappointing it would have been for Hamburg in their failure to win promotion back to the Bundesliga at the first time of asking last season. It was enough for the club to act and give the experienced Dieter Hecking the head coach’s job, with the sole aim of getting back to the top-flight this season. After 14 games of the campaign so far it’s looking encouraging as Hamburg sit top of the table, albeit only on goal difference. It’s looking like it will be very competitive at the top end of the table with three points separating the top three clubs.

With the top two winning automatic promotion the situation is looking positive for Hecking and his players. The derby defeat to St Pauli remains their only loss so far this season but they have struggled to pick up wins on their travels. This will be their eighth away game of the campaign and they have managed just two wins so far, both of which came back in August.

Osnabruck vs Hamburg SV Betting Advice

With Hamburg competing in the Bundesliga up until the last couple of years and Osnabruck in the third tier, this will be the first meeting of the clubs in a league game. They did, however, meet in last season’s German Cup when Osnabruck were victorious 3-1. Their home form in general has been pretty good this season, too. With three wins and two draws in seven games it will give them confidence they can compete against the leaders and potentially pick up their second win in 11 games. Hamburg will know they have to be at their best as they go in search for their first away victory in three months.

Both teams have shown how hard they are to beat in recent weeks and this looks like be a really competitive game. Hamburg are by no means prolific winners on the road and have already drawn four times. With their hosts on a run of four draws in their last five games then a share of the points looks the way to go here.
