Portland Timbers registered a fourth win on the trot in Tuesday night’s US Open Cup win away at Seattle Sounders in a 3-1 victory, and they return once again to their Providence Park ground in tonight’s clash against Houston Dynamos.
In the MLS, the Timbers have won their last three on the trot with wins over DC United, Colorado Rapids and New England Revolution which included two clean sheets, while their overall home record stands at a solid 3-3-1 8/5 with their one defeat so far coming against Orlando City.
With three clean sheets in their last three home matches, Portland Timbers will be confident of keeping another clean sheet here tonight while Nigerian striker Fanendo Adi (6 goals) will also be looking to add to his goal tally and looks a good prospect for anytime goalscorer.
Visitors Houston Dynamos have won their last two matches on the trot with a MLS 4-2 win over New York Red Bulls which was followed up by a 2-0 win over Austin Aztex in the US Open Cup, but it should be noted that both of these recent successes were registered on home turf.
Former Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle now takes his side to Portland to try and build upon this momentum, but they’ve won just once on their travels in the MLS all season which was a 2-1 win at Toronto FC a couple of weeks ago.
The Dynamos overall away record stands at 1-3-2 5/6 and they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in all six of their away matches to date, while Oscar Garcia and Brad Davis are injury doubts for Coyle’s side.
Portland have been impressive at home so far this season though, so I’ll back the hosts to register all three points in perhaps a 2-1 win with striker Adi perhaps also finding the net.
